Check Out Nicholas Ross’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Ross.

Hi Nicholas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a hard time sticking to just one creative outlet. My day job is in advertising, but outside of that I’ve spent years playing in bands, designing for musicians and record labels, making films, and saying yes to any project that gives me a chance to create something. I’ve always enjoyed finding new ways to tell stories, whether that’s through music, design, video, or whatever creative rabbit hole I happen to fall into.

Over the last few years, that energy has moved into running. What started as a personal challenge turned into NIXXFITS and the NIXXFITSFAMILY, where I document training, work with brands, and try to make running feel a little more approachable and a lot sweatier. Somewhere along the way I also somehow became a foot model, which is still pretty funny to say out loud. Looking back, there’s a pretty clear thread connecting everything. I’m always chasing the next creative outlet and finding new ways to connect with people through it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the funniest challenges with NIXXFITS has been realizing how quickly a some sweat can become a real thing. It started as me messing around, making sweaty running content, and trying to entertain myself, but somewhere along the way it turned into a community, and this little world that exists outside of me.

The tricky part is remembering that I created NIXXFITS as a way to enjoy running, not as a reason to turn every moment of my life into content. When you build something around yourself, the line between the person and the persona can get pretty blurry. I’m still figuring out that balance, but I think that tension is also what keeps it fun. The best parts of NIXXFITS usually come from letting it be a little ridiculous while still making sure there’s a real sweaty person underneath.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an Art Director by trade, specializing in social and digital creative, where I help brands develop ideas and turn them into campaigns people actually want to engage with. A lot of my work sits at the intersection of design, storytelling, and culture, whether that’s through advertising, music, or other creative projects outside of my day-to-day work.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to win awards for my creative work, publish a book, release music, and work across a lot of different mediums. What I’m most proud of is probably the range of things I’ve been able to explore. I’ve never wanted to be someone who only works in one lane. I like taking ideas from different worlds and finding connections between them. I think that curiosity is probably what sets me apart most. I’m always looking for a new way to tell a story or make something that people remember.

What are your plans for the future?
Right now, I’m looking forward to continuing to build across all the different things I’m passionate about. On the running side, I’m training toward bigger goals, including the Dallas Marathon and hopefully taking on the London Marathon as well. It’s been exciting seeing running become another creative outlet and another way to challenge myself.

Outside of running, I’m excited to keep making music with my band, working on more design projects, and continuing to explore all the weird creative opportunities that come my way. That includes more traditional things like creative work and music, but also the less expected ones, like somehow finding myself doing more foot modeling.
