Building a Spa Destination Beyond Austin
For Shasta Lusk, building a successful spa business has always been about more than massage and skincare—it’s about creating places where people feel genuinely cared for.
A longtime massage therapist, esthetician, and woman business owner, Shasta has grown Cherry Blossoms Spa from its original Bastrop location into a second thriving destination in Lockhart, Texas. As both communities continue to grow, she’s excited to bring elevated spa experiences, exceptional hospitality, and a little something special to the small towns just outside Austin.
“We’re really just a small-town business at heart,” says Shasta. “I think there’s something special about building something beautiful where people don’t always expect it. Small towns are growing so quickly, and it feels meaningful to grow right alongside them—serving the people who have supported us from the very beginning, and welcoming new faces as they discover us.”
The Lockhart location has become a destination of its own—perfect for locals, weekend visitors, girls’ trips, couples, and travelers exploring the area for Lockhart’s famous barbecue. Guests can make a day of it: grab barbecue, explore downtown, and stop in for a massage, facial, or a little self-care.
Cherry Blossoms is known for thoughtful details, unique spa packages, couples massages, and creating experiences that feel personal rather than cookie-cutter. And Shasta isn’t slowing down. The spa is introducing new services and technology, including Lockhart’s first Hydrafacial machine, bringing another elevated skincare experience to the growing town.
For Shasta, it’s all part of a bigger vision: build beautiful, welcoming spaces in small towns, create jobs, support the communities she loves, and keep raising the bar for what a small-town spa can be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Expanding into Lockhart brought plenty of learning experiences. It took over a year to find the right location and another five months to bring Shasta’s vision for the spa to life. Building visibility in a growing town took time, but it also led to meaningful connections with local business owners and the community.
Through it all, Shasta says the experience reinforced the importance of staying grounded, trusting the process, and fully believing in your vision.

I believe luck plays only a small part in life. What matters more is becoming an expert in your field, setting big goals, and having the courage to believe in them before they become reality.
Years before it ever happened, I visualized the Lockhart spa, the team, and the clients who would walk through its doors. I poured love, energy, and intention into that vision long before there was anything tangible to show for it.
