Conversations with Rachelle Penny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Penny.

Hi Rachelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Rachelle Penny, raised in Austin Texas.
For more than 10 years I have been a multi-passionate artist, yoga instructor, DJ, dye artist and full time dental assistant. I love to create in many ways. I have always had a deep love for Art, Music and Yoga. Yoga gave me a new perspective and a new way of living that taught me so much about myself. It opened up the creative side of me and gave me the strength I needed to push through some really rough times. Yoga sparked the Dj and the Tie dye artist in me. These are all tools that have helped me grow in many ways that I would have never imagined. I hope to inspire people to always try new things. Try that thing you always wanted to but never did.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I naturally bring a lot of passion and creative energy to everything I do, which extends to my personal pursuits in music and art. In the past, balancing a full-time career with these passions became a challenge, and trying to do everything at once ultimately taught me a hard lesson about burnout.
However, that experience was a major turning point for my professional development. I learned to shift from trying to do everything simultaneously to taking things one deliberate step at a time. Today, I use strict prioritization, realistic scheduling, and energy management to ensure I deliver 100% at my full-time job while still maintaining my personal creative outlets. Learning how to manage my time so effectively has actually made me more focused, disciplined, and resilient.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In the art community in Austin, I am known as a multidisciplinary artist who specializes in art and music community building.. What sets me apart is my ability to blend precise technical execution with unique aesthetic curation.
I specialize in ice tie-dyeing, a meticulous process that requires patience, timing, and an eye for how different elements interact under shifting conditions. I translate that exact same fluid creativity into my work as a DJ, where I curate complex sonic environments by blending psychedelic bass funk, hip hop, ambient groove, and electronic music.
Ultimately, what truly defines me and drives my success is my passion for collaboration. I intentionally surround myself with other creators, makers, and innovators. Being immersed in that kind of collaborative energy has taught me how to read a room, synthesize diverse perspectives, and build spaces where people feel inspired to do their best work. That is the exact same collaborative spark and unique problem-solving mindset I bring to the world.
I don’t just create in a silo; I actively build spaces for the creative community. For example, I created a monthly multi-disciplinary event called Art Jam that brings together local artisans, painters, DJs, and live performers. I also bring that same professional reliability and vibrant energy to venues, festivals and events, performing as a DJ and also Vending my Ice tie dyes.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities that have most led to my success are adaptability and resilience, which I developed through navigating my passion for art during challenging times. In the past, managing creative pursuits alongside professional demands during difficult periods became a real test of my endurance. I learned that when external pressures are high, energy levels naturally fluctuate, meaning traditional time management isn’t always enough.
To succeed, I taught myself to adapt by managing my energy rather than just my hours. Yoga and meditation has helped me manage my stress and anxiety. I would recommend it to everyone.
