Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashly Gonzalez.
Hi Ashly , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved from McAllen 6 years ago and it was my favorite decision ever. The amount of opportunity in the city of Austin is endless it feels like. Since moving here I’ve been able to network with some great friends that got me into the EDM scene with paid photography gigs. Working on new personal projects has given me the motivation to reach new passions that I didn’t know i had.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely a bumpy road along the way, but nothing in this life is easy. And personally if i don’t have to work for it, i don’t want it. Sometimes we have these lessons to make sure we don’t repeat our cycles.Moving 3 times in one year was hard and it took a toll on my mental health, this was my hardest struggle. I started experiencing mania and was not okay. This took a lot of mental work on my end so that I didn’t develop bi-polar syndrome. After many sessions of therapy and making sure i didn’t fall off on bills so my mental health wouldn’t decline further. This was more of a silent battle that i didnt feel comfortable sharing with a lot of people. I didn’t want to affect my business, nor my ability to work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
photography, Painting, singing, digital creator, digital artist, promoter, artist hospitality, DJ, event coordinating, and im still collecting tools under my belt. My photography is what im most proud of, I’ve been able to meet some amazing humans through it and getting some insane pictures from it. I like to shoot pictures in a cinematic format. I would like the viewer to feel like they just saw a moment from a movie.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Advice id give to anyone picking up photography is, if you love… it do it! Start with your phone the only person that should care is yourself. eventually you can get to point where you want to grow, then you can have an understanding of what you need versus what you want. It’s expensive and in this economy we have to learn to be frugal.
