Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Nickerson.
Hi Sabrina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Sabby’s Sojourns actually started with restaurants, not travel. After going through a divorce, I found myself rebuilding my life in many ways, and one thing that stuck with me was how much I loved discovering good local food, no matter where I was. Friends, coworkers, and even strangers started asking me for recommendations, and I noticed that anytime I sent someone to a spot I loved, they always had a great experience. Eventually, enough people told me, “You need to start a blog,” that I finally listened.
What I love most is finding the smaller, local spots, not just the well-known names, and when I’m lucky enough to meet the owners and hear their stories, that’s when a meal turns into something worth writing about.
The modeling side came later, but it’s actually something I’d wanted since I was 17. Back then, people encouraged me to pursue it, but life had other plans: college, family, work, eventually marriage. When I started this blog, I realized there was no reason to keep putting it off. So I brought modeling into the mix too, and it ended up being the perfect complement to the food and travel content, giving the blog its own visual identity instead of looking like every other food or travel page out there. Better late than never.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Balancing this with a full-time HR role at a warehouse has probably been the biggest one. Most of the blogging happens in the evenings, on weekends, and while traveling, on top of being a dog mom, which adds its own scheduling puzzle when I’m planning trips or late shoots.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Sabby’s Sojourns is a lifestyle blog that blends three things people don’t usually put together: food, travel, and modeling. Instead of writing a straightforward restaurant review or a typical travel guide, I like to tell the fuller story of what a place looks, feels, and tastes like, all woven into one piece.
What I specialize in is finding local, lesser-known restaurants wherever I go, not just the popular tourist spots. I make it a mission to seek those out, and when I get the chance to meet the owners and hear their stories, that’s usually what makes a piece special. I also publish on Substack, where I write shorter, more personal pieces, such as a recent one about a Korean language group I host at my home, which turned into a story about language, community, and a homemade meal that brought everyone together.
What I’m most proud of is that people actually use my recommendations. I hear from friends, coworkers, and even strangers who tried a place because I suggested it and had a great time; that’s the whole reason I started this in the first place.
What sets me apart is that combination of food, travel, and modeling in one cohesive style. Most blogs stay in their lane: a food blog, a travel blog, a modeling portfolio. Mine brings all three together, which gives it a visual identity and a personal voice that’s hard to find elsewhere.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Here’s the ironic one: I grew up going to a Korean church my whole life, surrounded by the language every Sunday, and yet I only just started actually taking Korean classes. It’s funny that it took me this long to formally learn a language I’ve been hearing since childhood. But that’s kind of who I am. I’m all about community, whether that’s through food, language, or just bringing people together. Better late than never, I guess. Same philosophy that got me into modeling.
