Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Christie.
Hi Hope, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My Names Hope Christie, Artist Name Hope Noel. I was Born in Spokane Washington and moved to Austin Texas when I was 11. Ive been singing my entire life and found the most piece in joy in singing my heart out to my favorite songs. I found it comfortable and familiar and am grateful to say I was raised in a family that was encouraging from the beginning. I Remember making up songs to sing with my sisters in the back seat of my mom’s van on a road trip. Music held different roles in my life as I aged and changed but was always vital. I did theater, choir, church band, and even joined a cover band a friend from church was in when I turned 18. That was my first taste of playing gigs. Your telling me someone is gonna pay me for me to do my favorite thing?! My passion and calling for music led me further and further even when my anxiety and fear was loud my need to live and breathe music always won. It won when I changed my Major from psychology to Audio Engineering. A field I originally knew nothing about. My parents aren’t musicians! I Have no connections but I had seen so many of my favorite artist share behind the scene videos of them self producing and vocal comping and I knew I needed to do that. That was one of The major first steps I took so I could take myself serious as an artist. I wanted to understand how the sausage gets made, I wanted to be in control and not just see the man behind the curtain making the magic happen but be that man! ( or woman lol) When I Joined the ATI department of ACC I made a lifetime of connections and memories. These are people who are actively in the field and will see the potential in you and water you until you grow. I learned how to record myself professionally on studio equipment and then how to mix and master mown music. I played coffee shop gigs along the way, accompanied by some of the musical friends I had met, and build my confidence. This finally led to the release of my first two singles under the name “Hope Noel”, the first song being “Supernatural Man” and second being “walls”. I poured my heart and soul into these songs. Not to mention hours and days and weeks and months of labor and I’m so very proud of them. I can see my future carving itself out. like every performance, or merch design, or song release, or new lyric I write is an investment into my future and who I want to be but also what I want art to look like! I have to much to share and o much to learn. Id say my main skilled are writing, connecting with an audience and vocal producing. Many of my influences include but are not limited to: The Supremes, Sheryl Crow, Ariana Grande, Lizzy Mcalpine, Adel, Michael Jackson, Black Pumas, Half.Alive, Joji, Hayley Williams, Marvin Gaye, Lawern Dangle, Gwen Stefani, billy Joel, the backseat lovers, the cure, and so many more!
At the end of the day im a music fan first and an artist second. I couldn’t make if I hadn’t first heard. Im constantly being inspired by the new music I hear and fan girling over vocal runs and production choices.
As of recently in may vocal journey I had a massive change that put me in hiatus for the first half of 2026. In February of this year I lost my ability to speak or sing, seemingly out of nowhere and to make a long story short is took 3 months and 2 wrong diagnoses but I was finally diagnosed with having a Vocal Polyp. This was devestating at the time. not only was I terrified because of the inability to communicate or do music and the lack of answers but now that I had answers they weren’t a quick fix. My doctor recommended I have vocal surgery to cut out the growth in my throat cause all the issues.
I did the surgery and to be honest. I didn’t have a lot of immediate relief. See your voice is a mussels dn singers are like athletes and so it has taken months and months of hard work to get my voice even back in to shape to sing. I was embarrassed I had never heard of any9one having this issue and I was sad.. The thing that brought me the most joy was suddenly stripped away from me .
Im grateful to say im back to doing shows and im so excited for what next in store but I don’t think I’ll ever look at singing the same way. it’s such a gift. I now really don’t care anymore if someone likes or dislikes my voice. it doesn’t faze me cause im just so incredibly grateful to have a voice and to be singing. I know what I long and what I wanna make. Science says music is healing and I agree. I want to help heal people and bring people together with music. I want to be seen and make others feel seen. and Ii want to have fun. Music is so much fun. Im currently working on recording my debut album and I have almost a dozen songs written that id like to record. Austin has given me a space to not only test out my skills but to fully dive into the world that is live music. The connections ive made are honest and im so inspired by the hard working musicians around my that bust there buts and don’t take no for an answer.
I write most my songs on piano and mix all my won music but I really wanna grow in my guitar skills cause how sick would it be to do a guitar solo while doing a crazy vocal riff. GOALS! I love this world I love Austin venues and music festivals I love working live sound f for other local artist and growing my network more and it starts to make this world not seem very scary. when you start to have a friend on every street corner. When you can listen back to your own song on Spotify and hear your friends s harmonies in the background. Your hair to believe in yourself and your project 100 times more than anyone else.
I didn’t know that for a long time . when I started working I Music I thought it was like theater. I thought I needed audition for very role and approval for every move forward. But when your making your own music its like running your own business. No ones gonna teach you how to make merch or pitch yourselves to venues, or send mass emails. truthfully those parts can feel quite draining as a creative person and the rejection can feel like a knife. but its so worth it. I think about my release party last december and how many friends and family from different walks of life cam and filled the building, clapping and dancing and singing and sweating all because of music.
Its no logger just something I get to do but its something I have to.
Music should breathe life into a room.
I intend to do that!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
its difficult sometimes being a overly male dominated field. I think people underestimate what I can do .But with that being said ive also been supported by guys in the field that have seen my potential and vouch for me even when I didn’t have much to show for myself. im grateful for that.
another issue is escaping burnout. I have an overflow on ideas but I limited amount of finances and time to back it up so I must be strategic and a hard worker. Included being strategic about allowing myself to rest when I need it! for independent people this is so hard.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am. singer/songwriter/producer/studio and live sound engineer
Im most proud of my live shows and my self relased music on all platforms under the name “Hope Noel”
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
While I don’t think you can plan every tiny detail I also don’t know I belike in luck . I think everything is so connected and you reap what you sow. So I try to treat every show like its the most important of my life
