Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Juarez.
Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been working in creative jobs for my entire career. I actually started my career as a wedding videographer, which was super fun. I began working for a company as a videographer, then gradually worked my way up on the business side. Over time, I became the full-time Studio Manager for that company. Working in the wedding industry taught me so much about filmmaking, business, and weddings. The experience I got was invaluable. Over the years I worked for a few different video production companies and also did a variety of freelance work. After nearly a decade of working with creatives, a very important shift happened. The company I was working for at the time had to cut my hours and I needed to look for more work. That’s when I decided to start my business — Taylor Brooke Creative Solutions. I had lots of business experience under my belt, a treasure trove of skillsets, and a huge network of creatives that I’d built up over the years. I decided to offer virtual assistant services for creatives. Starting a business felt like the perfect thing to do — and it was.
Because my business is virtual, it didn’t take much to launch it. As soon as I announced my new business, I quickly started booking clients from my network. It was awesome to start by working with friends or other colleagues I already knew. The word spread quickly and my client roster kept expanding. Turns out lots of people need help running their businesses — especially creatives! Within 6 months, I had a full-time slate of clients and my business has been thriving ever since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been smooth in the sense that I’ve always had plenty of work and a great line-up of clients. But as my business grew over time, I learned a lot about myself and how I actually wanted my business to operate. After awhile, I realized that I was so much more than a virtual assistant. I was providing services and strategies that were much more about making a business run at a higher level as opposed to just helping with day to day admin tasks. The most important shift I’ve made in my business was to change my job title and re-vamp my offerings. I transitioned from Virtual Assistant to Creative Business Operations Manager. That change helped me clearly define the value that I provide and elevate me to a higher level. When you have your own business, it’s easy to fall into the trap of being willing to do anything for money. But the real success comes when you get specific about the work you do vs. the work you don’t do and when you value what you have to offer. When you understand what sets you apart and you can clearly communicate that to people, that is a powerful thing.
We’ve been impressed with Taylor Brooke Creative Solutions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Creative Business Operations Manager. I help creative small businesses with operations management, systems setup, client communication, project coordination, strategy, and monthly business management. At the core of what I do, I’m really building and maintaining the systems that allow a business to run smoothly and efficiently.
I am 50% technical and 50% creative, which makes me uniquely qualified to do what I do. I understand creatives because I am one. I get how their brains work, how ideas comes in waves, how structure can feel restrictive, how traditional corporate systems don’t fit the way they think. But I also have the other half that’s wired for systems. I genuinely love organization. I thrive on logistics and management. I can take chaos and turn it into a workflow that actually makes sense. That technical, organized side of my brain is what helps the creative side stay sustainable. And from what I’ve seen, that combination is pretty rare.
I am super proud of the brand I’ve created. I knew from day one I wanted to build something that reflected exactly who I am — a girly, silly, fun-loving millennial who will forever be in her Y2K era. Also, since my client niche is creatives, it makes perfect sense to have a brand that is bright, colorful, fun, nostalgic, and filled with creativity. I wanted my brand to feel authentic and fresh and represent my personality. Because that allows me to show up exactly as I am — and clients love that. If you’re going to have a business (especially a creative one), you might as well have fun with it!
