Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Jones.
Hi Alexandria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Truthfully, I never thought I’d end up doing this. I was never happy with the results of my nails after leaving the nail salon. They weren’t able to do the designs I wanted or the shape, and always got talked into something simpler that wasn’t me. I started doing my own nails as a hobby and it became my creative outlet. After sometime, I started doing nails for close friends and family. Before I even knew it, I was getting order requests and Charmed Up Nails was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the most significant challenge was internal. It involved pushing myself beyond my comfort zone creatively and physically. I had to confront myself and acknowledge that the only way to succeed was to do something that was genuinely authentic to me. This meant embracing rejection and criticism as opportunities for growth. Once I made this acceptance, it ignited a sense of excitement within me, motivating me to take creative risks and making meaningful connections.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create press-on nails. They often carry a negative connotation, so part of my motivation is to change that perception. What truly makes me proud of my work is being able to create nails that are a perfect reflection of the person wearing them. I particularly enjoy working on sets that have a distinct personality, especially those that are loud and vibrant! I believe that’s what sets me apart from the rest. I love to go big with my designs.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The best advice I can give is to talk to everyone about your business. The most effective way to gain exposure is to make connections, as everyone knows someone, and that someone might be the key to your next opportunity.
