Meet Sheridan Reed of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheridan Reed.

Sheridan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began writing music during high school, and I remember every song was a bit of a struggle. It wasn’t something that just flowed out of me naturally, but as I started my first band and starting moving through it, I saw progress slowly but surely. After playing with all sorts of talented groups from a jazz combo to a pop punk band, I landed in Austin in 2016 and started my current journey. My sound has progressed over the years, and I’ve had successes and failures, but the one thing I haven’t done is stopped. I continued to release music, improve my songwriting, and discover my sound over the last several years, this last year however, has been transformative. I wrote a whole new album, put together a new band, feel like my direction has clicked, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
From playing shows with no one there, being taken advantage of in deals with management and PR, to being stuck with a song I can’t figure out or get past, there’s always one thing or another.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My music the last several years has leaned towards a soul-pop sound, and this last year and new album has transformed my creative process. I want my songs to be able to stand on their own, without production, and still be great, so I’ve gone back to the basics. I’ve found joy in writing solo on my guitar, and then translating the finished song to a full band, where each member is an expert and has the freedom of expression to explore their own part and where it fits in the sound to elevate the song.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
After taking a year hiatus from performing, I’m out again with my full band playing shows regularly so come on out to a show, listen to my previous releases on Spotify, or follow along on social media.
