Hi Mona, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been drawn to beauty. It feels natural to me, and honestly, it is in my blood. My grandmother was a cosmetologist, so I grew up watching her make people feel beautiful. That energy stayed with me and shaped the kind of artist I wanted to become.
Before I ever stepped into a beauty school, I started my journey through YouTube tutorials. I practiced everything I could for years, learning, experimenting, and falling deeper in love with the craft. After high school, I decided to take it seriously and went to Paul Mitchell The School of Jax. Later, I moved to California where I learned how to do lashes. The beauty industry in California is so inspiring. I loved the studio I worked for, but I knew I wanted to create something more personal and intimate. When you are doing any kind of beauty service, it should feel private, comfortable, and intentional.
Becoming a mom at a young age pushed me even harder. I wanted better for myself and for my child, and that became a huge part of my motivation. I knew I had talent, I knew I had an eye for beauty, and I wanted to build something that would give us stability, pride, and a future.
When I first moved to Austin, I worked for a studio here, and that is when it really clicked for me. I knew I could create something better. Something softer, more intentional, and more aligned with the kind of experience I believe beauty services should have. That is what led me to build Mona Cheri Beauty Studio.
I got to where I am today through the drive I have always had within myself. I have always known I wanted my own business because of my talents and my passion for all things beauty. I want to express myself fully and do everything I am capable of. Hair, makeup, lashes, and brows. I have grown by constantly expanding my skills, taking new courses, and perfecting my craft. The beauty industry changes all the time, so I make sure I stay up to date on what is new.
Building a community is important to me. I love people, and it genuinely makes me feel good to make them feel good. I am a social butterfly, and this industry keeps me connected to people in a way that feels natural and fulfilling. Every moment of this journey, from YouTube tutorials to my grandmother’s influence to my training in Jax and California to becoming a young mom to my time working in Austin, has shaped me into the artist and studio owner I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all for me, but you cannot stay stuck in the struggle forever. At some point you have to find your way out. Being a single mom has definitely made things harder, but I never use it as an excuse to stop. I am thankful for the family I have because they help me when they can, but they cannot do everything. They can only help so much, and the rest I had to figure out on my own.
Going to school was hard. I was trying to finish cosmetology school while also working and taking care of my child. I had to drop out at one point just so I could work full time and keep a roof over our heads. We all have bills, and you cannot just stop working. At some point you have to learn how to be independent, especially as an adult and especially as a parent.
Learning to trust myself and believe in my work was another challenge. I had to learn to trust the quality I provide and the intention behind everything I do. It took time, but I did it. I got this far, built something real, and made amazing connections with people who genuinely support me. Because the truth is, you will have people in your life who have their own businesses, but everyone is busy and not everyone is willing to help. Some people feel like everyone should struggle the same way they did.
I have always put myself on the back burner to help other people, but building my own business showed me that not everyone does the same for me. And that is okay. Life keeps going, and I am going to keep being strong, keep pushing myself, and keep creating an amazing name for myself in this industry.
Moving around also helped me adapt anywhere. My dad was in the military, so I grew up moving a lot. Taking the step from California to Austin was not hard for me. And Austin gave me something California could not. It is more affordable, more stable, and it gave me the security to build the life I want. I can focus on my business, my growth, and my child without feeling overwhelmed by the cost of living.
It took time, but I am here. I am healthy, I am strong, and we are doing okay. And that is all I need to keep going.

I am a beauty artist who specializes in lashes, brows, makeup, and hair styling. I love creating soft, feminine looks that enhance a person’s natural features. I am known for being gentle‑handed, detail‑oriented, and very intentional with my work. I take my time, I customize everything, and I make sure every client feels comfortable and cared for the moment they walk into my studio.
What I am most proud of is the quality I provide and the trust I have built with my clients. People come to me because they know I do not rush and I do not do cookie‑cutter work. Every service is tailored to their face, their lifestyle, and their comfort level. I am also proud of the community I have created. My clients feel like friends to me. They know they can call or text me, and I will always be there to help them feel beautiful and confident.
What sets me apart is the experience I give. I create a private, intimate, luxury space where people can relax and feel safe. I listen, I care, and I make sure every appointment feels personal.
My work is more than just beauty services. It is connection, comfort, and confidence. That is what makes Mona Cheri Beauty Studio special.

What matters most to me is the golden rule. Treat people the way you want to be treated. It matters to me because the world would be so much kinder if everyone lived by it. I carry that into my work, my relationships, and my studio. When you lead with kindness, patience, and respect, you create a space where people feel safe, valued, and understood. That is the kind of energy I want to give to every client who walks into my life.
