Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryann Simmons.
Hi Maryann, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to start my own company because I wanted to offer a woman owned company that brings integrity back to a darker industry. Doing that alone is a service to my community,
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been awesome. Everything has fallen into place; I do get looked down on sometimes simply for being a woman is a man’s industry but that doesn’t stop me.
As you know, we’re big fans of My Roofing Lady. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My Roofing Lady is an awesome home-grown woman owned business. We do a lot to stay busy, like emergency tarping after bad storms, insurance claim assistance, meet with insurance adjusters, give bids, check roofs for those buying or selling their homes, leak checks, and my personal favorite, we educate people. Let’s jump into why My Roofing Lady was born shall we? I have always had a desire to do things a little different anyway, so when i started to notice flaws I had to make some changes. Let’s start with the facts: the roofing industry is shady, dishonest, lacks empathy, and worst of all, terrible for our planet! Most roofers sell so called lifetime shingles that are made from non-bridgeable materials to people knowing that the roof will only last a few years before mother nature causes enough damage that it needs to be replaced again. We only have one planet and so far, humans haven’t been doing a good job taking care of it. Shingles are terrible for our planet, the effect our groundwater, soil, air, and millions of tons of waste in the landfill yearly, all in the effort to make money. Well, I care. I want to do better. I want to raise awareness and make a difference. There are lots of options that are way better for our planet. They that last longer, are less likely to need replacement after bad storms, made from a lot of recycled materials, and when removed they don’t pollute our soil home as bad. I am a newer company yes, but someone had to do it. How can I thrive if my planet isn’t thriving? We have the ability to change it! I’m dedicated to bringing honesty, integrity, communication, and love back into this industry no matter what kind of pushback I get, and I will make a difference one roof at a time.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
That loving people changes the way you do business.
