Meet Zaya Walker of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaya Walker.

Hi Zaya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Zaya Walker, I am a Transgender woman currently finishing my second to last semester at Texas State University. I am a Studio art major, which means I strive to creatively-cultivate and express my artistic abilities through many different types of art forms. I consider myself a multifaceted person with interests such as: Fashion styling, Modeling, Welding, Collage design/fabrication, painting, as well as other sculptural works that dive deeper into using other tools and techniques that funnel my love for the arts.
Throughout my college career, I have been aspiring towards a modeling/styling career that transcends the modern day ideologies of what a person deems as a ready to wear outfit only for certain occasions. I aim to display my myriad of aesthetics that weave and interchange similarly to how I am feeling emotionally within. To outwardly express my passion for authenticity and self-love, I reflect those sentiments by wearing what makes me happy with the perfect pair of heels to match.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I was recently disowned by my mother for being transgender and left with no job and needing to fund the rest of my college journey alone.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do modeling and content creating. As well as selling my artwork and sculptures.

What does success mean to you?
I do not define my successful. I see it as stepping stones to the road of greatness and the end.
