Conversations with Oscar2saucy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar2saucy.

Hi Oscar2saucy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well I am an open format DJ that is born and raised in Austin TX (northeast area) and it all started with the love of music I’ve had over the years. Growing up I remember many times when I would grab my sister’s mp3 player when she wasn’t home and just browse and listen to anything that would grab my attention. I have somewhat of a good memory so I was able to memorize songs off of her mp3 player and even outside such as the mall, restaurants, parties, etc. I knew my love of music was serious when I discovered artists and genres I truly enjoy listening to. One of my earliest memories of finding some of my favorites was when I was in 4th grade I got into Ye, Chris Brown, Skrillex, Justin Bieber, Metallica, and so many more. When I hit middle school I was listening to Ye more often because how goated he is, but what really changed the game for me was Travis Scott. One thing that really stood out to me about him is how he reflects the energy of his music to his live shows but 10 times harder like I never seen a rapper have mosh pits going that crazy to their music. So because of Travis I was able to open up to the SoundCloud era when I start listening to artists like xxxtentacion, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Lil Pump, $uicideboy$ and more while I was also discovering a lot of 80s-90s rap hits. I always wanted to go to a concert or festival and this didn’t happen until my mom bought me tickets to see A$AP Rocky (Injured Generation Tour) for my 16th birthday, shoutout to my mom for making that happen for me and also letting me skip school to attend that show. That concert gave me some inspiration on what I wanted to go with for my future, I just started thinking bigger from there (the concert was lit btw). Fast forward to 2022 on a great date with my girlfriend I had decided I wanted to try mushrooms for the first time with her and this experience was no ordinary experience I felt like I was seeing my future happening and while being on this trip I was playing a playlist I normally play but with everything going on the music was just hitting different for me I just have no explanation to it, but it helped me visualize my future which I saw myself djing at many places in Austin. My girlfriend was knowing everything and because of that she motivated me to just give it a shot and have fun with it to see how far I will take it and that same week I went to my local guitar center to buy my first controller and from there I never looked back. My 1st year of djing was something that I will forever be grateful for because I was able to get booked for a good amount of local Austin events, I got booked for my first house party, and was even able to open up for rapper “DaBaby”. Based off my first year there was definitely no sign of me stopping, because I felt like I finally found my purpose and escape to my life. Now I’m continuing to do local events, shows, parties, and even boat parties during spring/summer. I will always continue to see how I can grow more as a dj and push my limits to the highest.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s not always gonna be a smooth road and that was the case for me because I definitely came across many struggles while becoming who I am now. There’s been many times when I will do shows/events and they don’t let me use my controller because they either don’t want to switch cables around mid sets or because they just only want to use the house board so i have to just adjust on the spot and just make sure im not accidentally pressing anything I’m not supposed to, but you know what I don’t mind these challenges because it helps me learn something I didn’t know before and sometimes I get home curious trying to know more about the tech that I was just playing with that same night. On the other hand there’s the struggles that I had to learn the hard way and that is getting scammed cause you know as an upcoming dj you don’t really know any better and you might think everyone will pay you for your services but then there’s people that aren’t planning on paying you afterwards and when stuff like that was happening to me I had to build a system that would work for me and for anyone that wants to book me that way we are all in the same page.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I go by oscar2saucy and I’m an open format DJ and something that I am most proud of is my instagram community I made called “4 the ragers” where all ragers from all over the world are welcome to chat, connect, and meet up at upcoming shows to their favorite artists. Something that sets me apart from others is my versatility in music and maybe you hear this a lot from other DJs but it’s true that every DJ has their own style but something about me is that I can really play whatever genre of music you’d want me to play and I can pick it up pretty quick even if I have never played it before.

How do you think about happiness?
Clothes makes me happy because I’ve always loved feeling myself when I have a nice fit on and because I genuinely love shopping for it. Video games make me happy because it makes me feel homey no matter what game I’m playing and no matter where I’m playing it especially a ps2 classic or cod zombies!
