Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Tepoel.
Hi Faith , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started pursuing photography in high school, and by the time I graduated I was already booking paid shoots. I knew I wanted to travel and build a life that didn’t feel tied to one thing or place, and photography became the way I could actually do that. It’s taken me all over for portraits, weddings, elopements, editorial work, film, working for brands, and a lot of random creative projects. I’m full time with travel now and love every single moment of it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has definitely been building a business while traveling full time. I’m based in Texas, but I’m constantly going to new places for work, so I don’t really have one local market that I’m always building in. Getting my name out somewhere new can be harder when you’re basically starting from scratch each time. But I’ve found that actually putting in the work, showing up, meeting people, and getting those first few shoots makes a huge difference. A lot of the opportunities I have now have come from doing that over and over again.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I shoot a mixture of digital, film, and Super 8. For weddings, elopements, couples, portraits, editorial work, and pretty much anything that lets me make something cool. My work is very movement driven, romantic, dramatic, editorial, and a little funky. I’m most proud when someone tells me they booked me because they wanted my creativity, not just pretty photos.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Movies, especially older ones and anything with really cinematic storytelling. I love pulling inspiration from the lighting, colors, movement, styling, and overall feeling of a scene. And music. So much music. I’ll often create playlists for certain types of sessions to help me get in the right headspace leading up to the shoot and feel like it changes the game entirely
