Meet Evelyn Reategui Zirena of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Reategui Zirena.

Hi Evelyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my art business in 2016 by painting flowers on canvas using oil and acrylic paints. From there, I began experimenting with other handmade products, including earrings made from wine corks that I painted and transformed into wearable art.

One of the best decisions I made was transitioning from creating products alone to working as an entertainment artist. That allowed me to combine my creativity with meaningful experiences for children and families. Today, I offer face painting, balloon twisting, tinsel hair, and other artistic entertainment services. I also lead painting workshops, where I help people explore their own creativity. My business has grown from selling individual handmade pieces into a broader creative experience centered on art, connection, and fun.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have a science degree and a 9 to 5 job, which I really enjoy. My business has grown slowly because I can only paint and do events on weekends or at night. I wish I had more time but that’s ok. For now, it works well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work combines art, entertainment, and hands-on creativity. I specialize in face painting, balloon twisting, tinsel hair, and other artistic entertainment for children’s parties, community events, festivals, and celebrations. During my painting workshops, participants can learn new techniques and create their own artwork. For me art has always been a healing and relaxing activity, I want to help other people feeling that.

What I’m most proud of is building my art business while working a regular job and raising two young children. My husband and I moved to Austin in 2018, and because we don’t have family nearby, balancing work, family, and my business can be challenging. Even so, I’ve continued to pursue my creativity and grow my services.

I’m also proud that I’m not afraid to step outside my comfort zone. Transitioning from painting on canvas and creating handmade products to becoming an entertainment artist was a big decision, but it allowed me to connect with people in a more personal and meaningful way. Being able to keep growing creatively while managing my responsibilities as a professional and a mother is something that means a lot to me.

What sets me apart is the combination of my artistic background, variety of services, and genuine connection with my clients. I’m not simply providing entertainment. I’m creating personalized experiences that encourage creativity, celebrate individuality, and leave people with a lasting memory.

Any big plans?
In the future, I plan to continue being more active on social media and growing my audience. One of my main goals is to gain more followers and establish myself as a go-to artist and entertainment artist in Austin.

I also want to upgrade my website and create a more complete online shop where customers can easily purchase my artwork and handmade products. I plan to offer my prints, painted earrings, hand-painted jackets, and hand-painted hats through the shop. My goal is to make my art more accessible while continuing to grow my brand, reach more people, and build a strong reputation in the community.
