Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryann Rivera-Dannert.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started long before I knew where I’d end up. It began with a little girl who experienced childhood sexual abuse, a teenager who dropped out of high school, a young woman who became a mother before she was ready, and later, someone who survived and overcame several forms of other traumas. For a long time, I believed those experiences defined my future.
Change didn’t occur overnight. There was learning, more bad decisions, more learning, and eventually I learned to tuned into my inner voice and really listen. I started to invest in my own healing and personal growth. I changed people, places, and things – realizing that while I couldn’t rewrite my past, I could rewrite the story I told myself. Through education, personal development, coaching, and years of doing the inner work, I began replacing fear with confidence, limiting beliefs with possibility, and survival with purpose.
As I grew and matured, the calling to help others became louder and louder. I desired to become for others what I needed most in the early years of my life: a positive light and be a role model. I founded my business, MRD Empowerment Solutions, because I believe everyone has the ability to grow beyond their circumstances when they’re given the right tools, support, and mindset.
Today, I partner with businesses, organizations, and individuals to deliver workshops, coaching, and conversations that strengthen leadership, resilience, communication, personal growth, and more. Additionally, as the vision for my business is to see women worldwide live a free, fearless, and fabulous life, I created the podcast HealingHer Within (rebranding coming soon). I’ve also coauthored in over 20 anthologies, and have been the visionary to several of my own.
Looking back, I don’t see my challenges as obstacles anymore, I see them as preparation. Every setback taught me something that I now use to help others navigate change, build confidence, and become stronger leaders in their careers and their lives. MRD Empowerment Solutions is more than a business to me; it’s the result of turning my life’s greatest challenges into a mission to help women rise, heal, and glow.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. It has been anything but a smooth road.
One of my biggest struggles wasn’t what was happening around me, it was what was happening inside my own head. Negative self-talk followed me for years. I questioned whether I was good enough, qualified enough, or capable enough to do the work I felt called to do. Even after launching my business, there were moments when imposter syndrome whispered louder than my purpose. And it became one of my favorite topics to speak about!
Building a business has come with its own set of challenges, too. There have been seasons where people loved what I offered but weren’t willing, or able, to invest in themselves. That can be discouraging when you know your work has the potential to change lives. I’ve had to learn that not everyone is my client, and that’s okay.
I’ve also experienced the heartbreak of broken friendships and relationships. Sometimes people misunderstand your intentions, make assumptions, or choose distance instead of having honest conversations. Those experiences hurt, especially when you genuinely care about someone. Sometimes it’s hard for people to see you as your current self, versus the old version of you. Over time, I’ve learned that not every relationship is meant to last, and sometimes growth requires letting go with love.
Every challenge has taught me something valuable. They’ve strengthened my faith, deepened my resilience, and reminded me why I started down this path in the first place. And that’s my motivation to keep going.
The fire and passion that God placed inside of me is still strong. If anything, it’s gotten stronger with every new season. I know my purpose is bigger than the setbacks I’ve faced, so I keep showing up, I keep learning, and I keep pressing onward. My life and circumstances hasn’t been perfect, but it’s real, and that’s exactly why I’m able to connect with and encourage women who are navigating their own challenges.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MRD Empowerment Solutions?
I wear several hats, but at the core of everything I do is one mission: helping women recognize their potential and become the best version of themselves – unapologetically.
As the founder & CEO of MRD Empowerment Solutions, I work with individuals and organizations to facilitate workshops, provide coaching, speak at events, and create impactful conversations around fear, imposter syndrome, building confidence, silencing the inner critic, and more. Whether I’m standing in front of a room full of professionals, recording an episode of my podcast *HealingHer Within*, or writing, my goal is always the same: to help women move beyond what’s holding them back so they can grow with confidence and purpose.
What I’m probably known for most is my authenticity. I teach from experience. I’ve lived through adversity, done the work to heal, and continue growing every day. I believe people connect more deeply when they know they’re learning from someone who has actually walked through difficult seasons and come out stronger.
I’m especially proud of building a business that reflects my values instead of chasing someone else’s definition of success. I’m proud that I’ve coauthored more than 20 anthologies, served as the visionary behind my own collaborative book projects, and created a platform where conversations about healing, growth, and resilience can happen openly and honestly. Most of all, I’m proud of the lives I’ve had the honor to impact.
What sets me apart is that I don’t believe transformation happens through motivation alone. Lasting change happens when people are willing to do the inner work, challenge their limiting beliefs, and take intentional action. My role is to create a space where people feel seen, challenged, encouraged, and equipped to move forward.
At the end of the day, I want people to leave every interaction with me believing one thing: their past doesn’t have to determine their future, and they have everything they need within them to rise, heal, and glow.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is that I cannot pour from an empty cup. Another favorite topic of mine. For many years, I believed being strong meant constantly pushing through, being everything to everyone, and putting my own needs last. I thought taking care of myself was selfish, when in reality, self-care is a necessary part of becoming the person I am called to be.
I’ve learned the importance of slowing down, listening to myself, and prioritizing my own well-being. When I take care of my mind, body, and spirit, I show up better (and I have an affirmation book focusing on these three topics: mind, body, and soul), not only for myself but also for my family, my business, and the people I serve. I no longer see rest as something I have to earn; it is something I need in order to continue growing and giving my best.
I’ve also learned the power of boundaries and the freedom that comes with understanding that “no” is a complete sentence. For much of my life, I struggled with people-pleasing and feeling responsible for how others felt. I had to learn that protecting my peace, honoring my values, and setting boundaries doesn’t make me mean, it makes me healthy. Saying no allows me to say yes to the things I truly want to do.
