Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
People often walk into an Austin Curls location expecting a certain kind of “prestige.” They see the aesthetic—the curated, precise environment—and they immediately start building a narrative in their heads. They assume there was a silver spoon, a fancy business degree, or some secret shortcut that paved the way to this success. They walk in expecting someone who puts on airs, someone who feels a bit shrewd.
Then, they meet me.
The air in our studios is beautiful and intentionally designed, but it isn’t stuffy It’s relaxing. It’s honest And that, I’ve realized is the true secret to the vibe I’ve built: it’s a space where the “chic” and the “boho” coexist.
If you had asked me twenty plus years ago, however, the vibe was a little different. Back then, I was a young stylist with a lot of ambition and an oversized ego. I didn’t know that mentorship was the ultimate career hack, and I certainly hadn’t learned that professional grace is a skill you have to earn. My early days were a masterclass in how not to do things—from being chronically unprepared to treating time like a suggestion rather than a currency. I’ve got stories from those years that are far too juicy to spill just yet—I’m saving those for the book—but those mistakes were the crucible. They forced me to get real, get humble, and ultimately, get professional.
My business is built on an “Architecture of Trust.” It’s the supreme currency of my service, and it’s the only way I know how to work. When a guest sits in my chair, they aren’t just getting a haircut; they are entering a space of extreme vulnerability. They’re facing a mirror—an object many people go to great lengths to avoid—and they’ve handed a pair of scissors to someone else. I never take that power lightly. I don’t just listen with my ears; I listen with my eyes. I’m reading the energy in their voice, the tension in their shoulders, the way they hold their body, It is a full-body experience for both of us.
In an industry currently obsessed with the “hype” of curly hair, I stand apart because my heart was in this long before it was a trend. For me, hair isn’t superficial—it’s inner work. I don’t aim for “perfection,” because perfection is static, and every head of hair is a unique, living thing. I aim for alignment. I want every person who leaves my chair to feel like they’ve finally met their best self.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
People often ask how I managed to build two of the top curly hair salons in the country in just seven years after moving to Texas. The answer is that I don’t treat a salon as just a place to work; I treat it as an extension of the environment it inhabits.
I’m currently channeling everything I’ve learned into my upcoming events. What I teach? It’s a culmination of my life’s work: the lessons from the salon chair, the insights gained as an expert witness, and the joy of mentoring. My vision for the future is simple: I want to keep raising the bar. I want to continue speaking, fostering a community where stylists don’t just “do hair,” but understand the profound impact they have on the people sitting in front of them and our planet. Whether I’m in the salon mentoring my team, painting in my studio, speaking to my peers, or to a new class of students, my goal remains the same: to create beauty that has substance, and to build trust that lasts.

With years of experience—from my roots in California to my work behind the chair in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills maintaining industry clientele, working with Universal Music Group, salon ownership and my role as a global educator for BBI International—I’ve learned that the “vibe” is just as important as the technique. My background in interior design and my love for art have taught me one crucial rule: never force a space to be something it isn’t Whether it is chic, traditional or a farmhouse aesthetic. Our Two locations, one chic, Steiner Ranch location or the other industrial barn-inspired soul of our Dripping Springs studio, my approach is always the same: curated, caring, and precise.

“Building a business isn’t just about the art; it’s about the architecture of the operation. Managing the logistics, the admin, and the financial risks of two locations requires a different kind of precision—the kind that happens behind the scenes. Balancing the books while managing a diverse team of stylists means navigating different personalities and high-stakes pressure daily. I’ve learned that risk-taking isn’t about being fearless; it’s about being calculated. I manage the drift by staying anchored in my systems and trusting the culture I’ve built. Whether it’s financial forecasting or navigating a staffing challenge, I treat every administrative hurdle with the same integrity I bring to a haircut. You have to be willing to bet on yourself, but you also have to be disciplined enough to build the foundation that makes that bet pay off.” Today, when I mentor young stylists, I see myself in their early mistakes. They often want to blame the client when things go sideways, but I push them to look inward. I tell them: You are the professional in the room. I don’t want my students to have to learn these lessons the hard way. I see the incredible professionals they are capable of becoming; my job is simply to help them work out the kinks.
After all, the best part of the journey isn’t the accolades or the top rankings—it’s the realization that you’ve created something that truly matters. And I’m just getting started.
