Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick King.
Hi Patrick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
So, I have been doing theatre/musical theatre since I was in 5th grade. I have performed all over Texas, and now all over American working for Locomotive Live. I have also worked for Royal Caribbean so I have also gotten the privilege to perform internationally as well. I have done some tv and film background work and I also which most people know me for around Austin, is that I worked at Esther’s Follies for about 5 years! Today, I am a project manager for Locomotive Live. Which entails me creating new themes for our Bingo Loco brand and I created our family show called K-Pop Superstars which just hit close to 3000 audience members at The Met in Philly!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The entertainment business is nothing of the sort. No smooth road down this line of work at all. Being a performer for the majority of my life, I had to get used to being told no. Auditioning for certain things just to get a callback and be sent home before you even get to show your talents because you don’t look a certain way is one of the struggles of the entertainment business. Constant brain fog when trying to create new concepts or just brainstorm new ideas and there are days that the brain just does not want to function which creates a rift in your work. All of this though helps create thick skin in the real world because if that certain thing wasn’t meant to be in that moment there is always something else out there that is meant to be!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would consider myself an entertainer. I have been in musicals, plays, film, tv, commercials, magicians assistant, you name it and I have probably done it. One of the major career accomplishments of mine has been to host a Bingo Loco for 3 days at Outside Lands in San Francisco. This was a festival that was headlining artists such as Charli XCX, Tinashe, Durand Bernarr, PinkPantheress, Destin Conrad, Turnstile, and so many more artists. It was so amazing to just see myself and the company on the lineup and people come see us specifically! I think what sets me apart from others is that I have been on stage and backstage when it comes to work. I have done all the behind the scenes and just been the entertainment so I understand what it takes for both worlds to come together to create that special art.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I think the most important lesson that I have learned is that failure is normal. No one and nothing that we do will ever be perfect and that’s okay! It is life, we learn from it and we keep pushing. I just continue to strive to be the best person I know that I can be.
