Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Edwards.
Hi Erin , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Two years ago, I had an amazing experience bringing my son into the world, and much of that great experience is credited to the support I had with me. Since the birth of my son, I’ve felt a calling to help support other women through their pregnancy and birth journey. When my son was 6 months old, I attended a birth doula training and felt the spark immediately; I knew this was something I had to do. This past May I started to take clients, and now I am consistently supporting women through their labor & birth experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I am still new to this role, it has been only positive so far. I have networked with amazing Austin birth workers, worked with clients who I feel deeply connected to, and found a “doula sister,” as I call her; someone who you know you can always rely on in this business.

As a birth doula, I am a support person through pregnancy, labor, birth, and the post-partum period. When a client hires me, we meet several times during her pregnancy to talk about her dream birth plan, talk about how I will support her and her partner, and build a relationship over the following months. The labor support varies as it is very individualized; I offer emotional and physical support; I advocate for my clients and offer a calming presence. At our post-partum visit, I bring a homecooked meal, and we chat about the birth. I truly love seeing my clients step into motherhood and value the relationship we build over this time!
