Meet Carl Scogland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Scogland.

Hi Carl, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first started playing music around the age of 12 after being inspired by my best friend’s dad playing guitar. However, I’m pretty sure I’ve had a love of music before I could even walk. Throughout my teenage years, I was in multiple rock bands in the Shreveport, Louisiana area. Then, during college, I started a hip/hop rock band with some friends and had some decent success around LSU. After graduating, I began work on my debut album “Simplicity” in 2009-2010. During these years, I toured around the southeast and ended up working on many other musical projects. In 2016, I released my sophomore album “Complexity” and once again kicked off a southeastern tour. This was a really great time in my life as I had the opportunity to share the stage with many incredible artists and met a ton of people along the way. Fast forward to 2021, I’m about to release my 3rd Album “Identity”. Personally, I think it’s my best work yet and I can’t wait to share it with the world! I have spent the better half of a year + working closely with local Producer/Engineer Clint Manning.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not necessarily – I think my biggest struggle has been challenging myself to not feel defeated when the songs just aren’t coming. As an artist, I go through swings where I can crank out multiple songs in a day and others where I struggle to finish a song for months. Then there’s times where the inspiration just isn’t there at all. For a while, I also struggled with the thought of getting older and not being as creative anymore.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer/songwriter originally from Shreveport, Louisiana and currently residing in Austin, TX. I have released two albums and I’m about to release my third album “Identity” later this year. Known for folky/pop/rock songs. I’m just proud of being able to share my music/artistry with the world. The most rewarding thing about what I do is when I hear someone say a certain song has helped them or inspired them.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Have a great marketing plan. I can’t stress how important that is and one thing I wish I could go back and change.
