Life & Work with Tony Suraci of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Suraci.

Hi Tony, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 9, I saw my babysitter (a male) walking/strolling on the street only wearing shorts w an acoustic guitar strapped-on strumming and playing while he walked and I thought, that’s what I want to do!

The following year, I moved to my fathers house and I begged him to buy me a guitar, which he did.
My uncle taught me how to tune it. My dad got me a couple lessons. I was in the 6th grade and some dudes walked up to me and said – I hear you play guitar, I replied yes and they invited me to play the talent show with them. They invited me to a practice. they were much better than I was and I learned many things from them. We played for the talent show. I’m sure I was awful!

There’s plenty more to tell but from then on, I never stopped playing.

We can get into more soon, if I’m allowed. My stories go on for days!

I wrote tunes with Billy Gibbons. Jammed with Willie Nelson. Played Buddy Holly songs with Gary Busey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say it’s been fairly smooth. I’ve always been able to pay the bills.
Biggest struggle was ex-wife with 2 kids. But I’m sure that’s not the kinda thing you’re looking to hear.
It stymied my original music pursuits.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in mimicking voices. I created a tribute show called The Highwayman Show.
It’s all about the legendary songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings & Kris Kristofferson.
I do their voices. I do not attempt to look like anybody – just switching my voice.

What’s next?
We’ve been touring and I would like it to be the case that we’re in demand around the country. Right now, it’s hard to get people/venues to return my emails.

Also, I have a nice music studio and I would like to produce all of my originals and publish them.
A publishing deal would be nice.
Getting my songs in a movie or commercials or another artist playing my songs would be great!
