Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Rey Flores.
Hi Dylan Rey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was little I always knew I wanted to do hair. I would be playing with my aunts hair, sister, cousins , basically any hair I could get my hands on. To take it to the next level, in high school, I started doing my friends hair for school ,they would come to my house super early and I would style their hair or even put extensions in ,blend them.. the works! I enjoyed every minute! I tell my clients I started work early hahaha. Once I graduated I originally went to community college to get into nursing school because I had thought it was the right thing to do …early on I told myself I need to follow my passion which is doing hair. I went to Ogle cosmology school in San Antonio where I had the most amazing instructors ever! In that time I was also a makeup influencer making makeup transformation videos and having fun with my creativity. I moved to Austin after I finished school and started at Ulta. I met the most incredible people during that time and have some of the most amazing clients that I am forever grateful for. After being with Ulta for 9 years, I wanted to elevate and spread my wings and look for new opportunities. I came came across dandy hair co. On South Lamar that my best friend had mentioned to me . I went through the whole interview process and I accepted . It was very scary to me since I was leaving a place I knew for so long, but everyone has told me sometimes when you feel scared it can be good thing . Since being there, I had the absolute best support from my clients and friends . Many amazing opportunities such as teaching a small class on new techniques and ways to elevate the overall salon experience. I still thrive to give my clients the best experience, the hair of their dreams AND most importantly, THE BEST laughs because in my chair we are laughing and having a great time .
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a little bumpy road not going to lie . Being from a small town to one city and then to another with no clientele, I sorta knew it was not going to be easy. At Ulta, my first year I was not that busy ,but I still stuck it out and remained positive. I did live with aunt and uncle up north and would travel all the way down south to work. Every client that was in my chair I told myself I need to give it my all and do my BIG ONE each and every time. I always try to perfect my craft and always learning new things for the next time. Especially since In the beginning I was not as fast so it would take a little longer but that’s how we learn.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I really specialize in color. Any color actually! color was the one thing I “self taught” before cosmo school because alot of my friends wanted me to color there hair or experiment…so me & YouTube “how-tos” where besties hahaha. Today I am known for color transformations! I LOVE a project! Seeing my clients face just light up at the end just makes me so happy. I really do take alot of pride in all my work. What sets me apart from others I would say is that I’m pretty versatile in my craft .. I can go from vivids, color blocking, platinum hair , brunettes , coppers , to highlights! I don’t really like to put myself in one category in color because any color I enjoy doing.

I would say once you get to know me, I am silly. I love laughing and just having a good time with my clients . I stay cracking jokes and I think it’s just fun to be silly haha.
