Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Larson.
Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story with flowers started a few decades ago, although I certainly didn’t know at the time that they would become such a lasting part of my life.
My first real experience working with flowers came when I was hired as a retail manager for a floral and gift boutique. Before that, I didn’t know much about the industry, but I quickly became fascinated. I loved the combination of working with my hands and using flowers to create art. I loved how they could set a mood and create a sense of place.
I went on to earn a certificate in Interior Design and while my career took me in a few different directions, flowers continued to be a constant. During the week, I worked a traditional 9-to-5, and drove to Park City on the weekends to work on weddings and events. Eventually, I started spending summers in Aspen doing flowers there as well. I kept finding my way back to floral design because I loved the creativity, the physical process, and I seemed to be good at it!
When I moved to Austin, I wanted to build a career where I could express myself creatively and I loved flowers as that medium. I wanted to combine my love for design with my passion for flowers to make a living. For years, my best friend had been telling me that I needed to start my own company. The timing finally aligned, I took the leap into working for myself, and Tiffany Larson Design Co. was born.
Looking back, my career was never defined by one single pivot, but rather by a series of alignments leading me exactly where I was meant to be. What began as that early boutique job slowly evolved into a lifelong journey built around color, design, and environmental storytelling. Today as we approach our five year milestone, Tiffany Larson Design Co. has solidified its place as a premier Austin event florist known for engineering large scale floral installations and experiential environments that redefine a space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly straight road, the unique hurdles of event production shaped me as a florist. People fall in love with the finished breathless atmosphere we create, but the unseen reality is the pure endurance. We’ve designed luxury weddings, maintained high profile clients, and executed multi-day sporting event buildouts where we build, adapt, and innovate even under the peak of the Texas heat.
Beyond the physical environment, the true learning curve was the business backend. It’s a constant balancing act of client communication, meticulous time management, and sourcing logistics. Furthermore, as Tiffany Larson Design Co. became known for structural installation design, I suddenly had to expand my skill set from purely artistic curation to mechanical engineering by learning how to safely suspend and anchor massive heavy floral structures.
Adapting to the seasonality of this industry, balancing high-intensity production periods with downtime, all while maintaining returning clients and driving new business development — has been a masterclass in resilience. All this to say that it forced me to build a business that is as operationally rigorous as it is creatively expressive.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Formally put, Tiffany Larson Design Co. is an Austin-based floral and event design studio specializing in creating bold, modern, and artful floral experiences for corporate events, brand activations, weddings, private parties, and editorial projects. But, while flowers are at the heart of what we do, I think about floral design as much more than simply creating arrangements. I love considering the entire environment, how flowers can influence the way a space feels, how people experience it, and, ultimately, what they remember about it. That passion translates into a signature design style that is colorful, organic, and a little unexpected. I’m drawn to movement, interesting textures, unusual color combinations, and flowers that feel natural and alive rather than overly structured. I love when a design has a true sense of personality and avoids looking like it was pulled from a catalog.
We specialize in experiential floral design, challenging traditional floristry, when possible, to treat flowers as an architectural medium. Whether we are styling multi-zone layouts for major sporting events like F1, engineering grand, culturally rich weddings, or crafting wild sets and editorial photoshoots, we focus on spatial transformations through artistic curation and rigorous logistics. Parallel to our floral design work, a major specialization is executing large-scale plant rentals and living decor for premium hospitality lounges. We design cohesive, high-end, botanical environments for the major yearly events and festivals that come to Austin like SXSW, partnering with brands and agencies who rely on us to source, style, and maintain premium greenery to make their temporary lounges feel curated and permanent.
I approach each project individually as every environment has completely different goals, whether it is a wedding, a corporate event, a hospitality lounge, or a private dinner. I love the challenge of figuring out how floral design can help tell each particular story. Ultimately, what I am most proud of is our reputation for reliability under pressure. Our corporate and agency partners often note that we can take a highly complex, detailed brief, and execute it seamlessly from initial concept to strike. What sets us apart is this operational fluency; we understand that high-end design is only as good as its execution, and we bring a calm, flexible, and engineering-minded approach to every footprint we touch.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest begins with my love for traveling and experiencing the world. I am constantly observing the world in which we live, gathering inspiration from different cultures, landscapes, and architecture. Bringing pieces of my travels back with me and integrating those global perspectives into my work is a massive source of joy. It allows me to infuse every project with a broader storytelling element.
There’s so much fulfillment in watching the final piece of a massive project all come together, in taking a blank canvas, whether it is a raw event venue, a private residence, or a temporary festival framework, and giving it a curated soul. Seeing a concept transition from a complex logistical brief into an immersive physical reality that people can feel and react to is incredibly rewarding.
Of course, there’s also a huge amount of happiness that comes from the incredible community that grounds me behind the scenes. This industry is physically demanding and intensely high-stakes, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the unwavering support of my partner, my close friends, and my family. I am also profoundly grateful for the brilliant network of Austin freelance florists who consistently bring their artistry, grit, and dedication to our biggest installations. Knowing that I have a solid foundation of people who believe in my vision allows me to take creative risks, explore global design concepts, and push boundaries.
