Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Kanevskaya.
Hi Maria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a creative person, but photography became the way I could express myself most naturally.
I started simply because I loved creating and connecting with people, and over time it grew into something much more meaningful to me. I’m still learning, experimenting, and growing as an artist and I think that’s what keeps me excited about what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles has been learning to trust myself and my creative instincts instead of constantly comparing my work to others.
Finding my own voice and style took time and I’m definitely still trying to evolve. I’ve learned to embrace the uncertainty and just keep creating, even when I don’t have everything figured out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portrait and fashion photography, and I’m especially drawn to photographing women. I love capturing the different sides of femininity, strength, softness, vulnerability. I love creating images that feel both personal and visually interesting.
I think what makes my work unique is the way I see people and the connection I create with them. I’m not looking for perfection, I’m drawn to real emotion, subtle details, and those unexpected moments that make an image feel alive. I’m most proud of developing a visual style that feels true to me while continuing to evolve creatively.
What’s next?
I’m really focused on building my photography career here in Austin, connecting with more creatives, and taking on bigger fashion and editorial projects.
I want to keep growing, pushing myself creatively and building a body of work that feels true to me.
