Today we’d like to introduce you to Sire.
Hi Sire, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
HI my name is SIRE MF and I was born and raised in The Bronx New York. At the age of 9 my mom was place in prison and since then art has been my safe space. My art business started in a small room in Staten Island, NY during my first year of college. I was mentally preparing to move out of New York City to Hawai’i and while watching a short clip of myself teaching my fellow classmates a dance routine – the video ended and paused with the image a huge smile on my face after my classmates accomplished the routine. I originally just wanted to be a backup dancer for musicians but after seeing that smile on my face- it inspired me. I’ve never seen myself so happy and then I started to watch the video over and over and realized that my classmates also shared the same joy. Those smiles planted a seed in my spirit that I had the ability to bring and share such joy through my art. So in 2019 I moved to Hawai’i and encouraged myself to find a dance company to teach with. Unfortunately due to not having any teaching experience nor having any dance teacher degrees – I didn’t have much luck. With that being said – I decided that this was a dream that I was gonna have to build myself. So during COVID I began to create routines that expressed freedom, joy, and emotions that helped me during hard times in my life. Months past and in June of 2020 I found a local gym that allowed me to rent out the space and run my dance business through it. Almost immediately word got out about my dance classes and I began teaching all through the Island of Kaua’i. Teaching adults, Children, and creating choreographed routines for weddings and special events. This was huge for me. I was in my early twenties, I had survived foster care and now I was successful dance teacher in Hawai’i. In 2024 I decided it was time to expand my dance business to a different city while also stepping into my musical journey. I then decided to move to Austin,TX and began teaching and making music. Almost immediately my artist journey began to flourish even more. I was hired at Ballet Austin for the continuation of teaching my joyful dance style and then later began booking gigs for my music career. With consistency I was able to book SXSW performances and community dance opportunities to uplift the Austin community. Getting where I am took a lot of resilience, tears, and prayer. There were times where I wanted to give up, and felt people around me were ahead of me but whenever I look back at my dancers and remember the feedback I’ve gotten from the dance community it pushes me to keep going.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth but it’s been graceful. I’ve had to deal with leaving my family in NYC. I’m the youngest of 6 kids and when I decided to move from NYC is the same year my mom came home from serving 10 years in jail. Leaving my family was huge sacrifice. I spent my entire life being separated from my family but going for this dream required me to let go of that childhood urge to be around family and reach for a life to where I can bring them to a better style of living. My family grew up in poverty and they still struggle with it. I use to be a prostitute during my teenage years but again my art, dancing, making music has always been a safe space for me. and now I use this gift to help others during trying times.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in creating modern spiritual uplifting music. Using the genres of pop, RnB, techno, gospel, and more. I started releasing my music under SIRE MF in 2024. I’m known for shifting negative energy into positive energy through my dance classes and through my music.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes, I listen to Sarah Jakes Roberts from the Potters House online. Watching Avatar the last Airbender is key to grounding my spirit along with ethereal music.
