Today we’d like to introduce you to Sky Beal.
Hi Sky , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It started young. YoungMasters in elementary school, VASE competitions in high school, New Media Collective shows and exhibitions across South Texas throughout college. By the time I earned my BFA in New Media from the University of Texas at San Antonio, I wasn’t just studying art — I was already living inside it. What began as a passion persistently morphed into a professional career, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the way that happened.
From there, the journey took me to some of the most exciting creative environments in Texas. I went on to manage and lead immersive art galleries, contribute to large-scale immersive worlds, and work as a scenic artist and fabricator for brands and venues including Wonderspaces ATX, Meow Wolf Grapevine, Hopscotch San Antonio, Circuit of the Americas, and the Moody Center. Each role sharpened a different part of me — as an artist, as a designer, as a leader, and as a human being. There is no guidebook for navigating a creative professional career, and I have learned more from being in the field than I ever could have learned anywhere else.
At a certain point I knew I was ready for something of my own. That’s when SKYLANE was born — my independent creative brand built around original fine art collections, custom commissions, and large-scale murals. Starting something from the ground up is humbling, unglamorous, and deeply fulfilling all at once. It has been anything but easy — but nothing worth building ever is. I’m honored for you all to be along for the ride.
I’m not stopping until I sell out shows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? Not even close — and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Struggles and lessons are what build character, resilience, and ultimately success. I face challenges every single day, and I have learned to welcome them as part of the process.
My biggest ongoing battle has been visibility in the digital age. I grew up before social media existed — before the algorithm decided who gets seen and who doesn’t. Marketing yourself as an independent artist in a world completely consumed by content, trends, and constant noise is something no art school prepares you for. It is something I am actively working on and growing into every single day.
But the struggle that has shaped me the most runs deeper than any platform or strategy. Throughout my entire life I have had people tell me I could never make it as an artist. That this path wasn’t practical. That I was setting myself up for failure. That doubt — from peers, from people close to me, from the world at large — has followed me every step of the way.
And yet here I am. Still building. Still creating. Still refusing to stop.
I have a long way to go before I reach the version of success I am working toward — but I am profoundly proud of myself for choosing a path that most people are too afraid to walk. That courage has cost me something. And it has given me everything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and creative producer — and the theme across everything I produce is transformation. I transform spaces, surfaces, perceptions, and experiences into something that stops people in their tracks and makes them feel something they didn’t expect to feel.
My work spans 2D mixed media, large-scale murals, sculpture, fabrication, photography, and immersive environments. I specialize in bold, graphic, character-driven work rooted in observation of the world — living forms, organic shapes, surreal figures — distorted and reconstructed into something entirely my own. My visual language is immediately recognizable: vivid color, strong line work, and a rawness that refuses to be polished away.
Professionally I am known for being able to operate at any scale without losing creative intention — from an intimate commission painted in my studio to a massive immersive installation seen by thousands. I have worked across scenic painting, fabrication, gallery curation, live production, and brand identity, and I bring the same standard of craft and care to every single one.
What I am most proud of is the body of work I have built entirely on my own terms — and the fact that SKYLANE exists at all. Building an independent creative brand from the ground up while navigating a full professional career is not easy. But every drop, every mural, every commission, and every piece I put into the world is proof that this path was always the right one.
What sets me apart is simple: range and authenticity. I don’t just make things that look good — I make things that mean something. And that intention lives in every single piece.
What are your plans for the future?
Keep building, keep growing, and keep going until SKYLANE is a name people know.
In the most tangible sense, that means selling out collections, hosting gallery shows and solo exhibitions, and painting murals across the United States — and eventually internationally. It means continuing to drop original work that challenges me creatively and connects with the people who encounter it. It means taking up more space, in more cities, on more walls, in more homes.
But beyond the milestones and the goals, what I am most looking forward to is the version of myself that exists on the other side of all of this work. Building a brand is an act of transformation — not just of a business, but of a person. I am continuing to challenge myself, continuing to grow, and continuing to heal.
If any brands want to collaborate, or any galleries want to host a SKYLANE exhibition — you know where to find me.
The door is open. The work is ready. And I am just getting started.
