Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob And Lilly Trevino.
Hi Jacob and Lilly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2020, during the COVID shutdown, I started LFay Candle Co. for my daughter, Lilly. My hope was to build something that could one day provide her with a future of her own.
As life became busier and I took on more responsibilities in the office, the candle business remained small. We made a few sales here and there from home, but I never imagined how important this little business would eventually become.
Then, in January 2023, our lives changed completely.
Lilly was struck by a rare and devastating condition called FIRES — Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome. What followed were years of hospital stays, treatments, brain surgeries, rehabilitation, and learning how to navigate an entirely different life.
After nearly four very difficult years, Lilly came to me with something that filled my heart with hope. She said, “I want to learn how to make the candles. I want to help make this a successful business.”
And that is exactly what she is doing.
Today, Lilly is learning how to make candles with my assistance. The process is slow, and some things take longer for her to learn, but she is determined. Every candle she makes represents much more than wax and fragrance. It represents perseverance, independence, purpose, and hope for her future.
LFay Candle Co. began as a dad trying to build something for his daughter.
Today, it is becoming something we are building together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road.
One of the hardest struggles for Lilly has been the loss of many of the friendships she had before her illness. When her life changed so suddenly, so did many of the relationships that had once been such an important part of her childhood.
That loss can be very lonely. There are times when the loneliness affects her motivation and makes it difficult for her to keep moving forward. Simple things that once came easily can now require much more effort, patience, and encouragement.
But even through those difficult days, Lilly continues to try. Learning the candle business has given her something to work toward and a way to begin rebuilding confidence and independence.
Our journey is not about pretending the struggles are not there. It is about continuing to move forward, one step, one candle, and one accomplishment at a time.

At LFay Candle Co., we create hand-poured candles using quality ingredients and carefully selected fragrances. What started as a small home-based candle business has become something much more meaningful for our family.
Today, the heart of LFay Candle Co. is helping Lilly build confidence, independence, and a future for herself. She is learning each part of the candle-making process with my assistance, from preparing the vessels to pouring, labeling, and packaging. We take our time and focus on doing each step well.
What sets us apart is the story behind every candle. We are not simply making a product; we are building opportunity, purpose, and hope. Every purchase supports Lilly as she continues to learn, grow, and work toward greater independence after everything she has endured.
What I am most proud of is Lilly’s determination. The business may have started because I wanted to create a future for her, but now she is becoming an active part of building that future herself.
