Life & Work with Stefon Osae of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefon Osae.

Hi Stefon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Musically It all began for me Learning how to drum from my church drummer (Maurice N.)at the age of 12 played for the youth choir then developed enough skills to play for the adults. Started producing with my cousin (Jeffery Lewis) shortly after. Learned how to produce on a 303 roland Sampler with dr groove 202 DNB also by roland with a Casio keyboard from radio shack. All that was self taught but came easy from being trained through Gospel music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think there is a smooth path in any journey let alone to success and success is subjective. So no in short but main struggle is learning how to properly network with meaningful people in the industry you’re interested in. “Social Equity” learning the bridges that need burning and the ones that need to be nurtured/tended to.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I DJ full time been doing that for the last 10+ years I also produce music been doing that since I was 14. I would say I specialize more on the production side of music over DJING. With producing with artist from NY-LA. I really try not say I’m proud just because I believe it’s ego centered and it’s never really about one person or thing but I do find joy in the community I’m involved in here in Austin. Seeing people I’ve worked with develop, hone their skill and add the community. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to produce music and my life time of studying music while continuing to learn & be taught new things.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I don’t say much but I’m always into having a discussions about insightful, interesting or even difficult topics. I like to know what others feel strongly about. Because I already know what I think!?
