Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Monsalve.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started @austinconhijos simply by wanting to share my experience as a mom discovering new places and fun things to do around Austin. What began as a way to document the places we discovered, the things i did with my kids, and the little moments of everyday family life slowly grew into a community of people looking for the same thing: ideas, connection, experiences and ways to enjoy Austin with their families.
As the account grew, I realized there was something much bigger behind the content. I wasn’t just sharing places to go—I was creating a resource for parents and families, that are also looking for fun things to do around our City and in Texas
Over time, @austinconhijos has evolved into a platform where I get to connect with local businesses, discover new experiences, meet other families, and hopefully make family life in Austin a little easier and more fun.
It’s been an unexpected journey, and I’m grateful that something that started so organically has grown into a community and a creative side job that I genuinely love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! Like any creative journey, there have been plenty of ups and downs.
One of the biggest challenges has been finding the balance between being a content creator, running the business behind the account, actually keep a full time job and being a present parent and family member. When your content is connected to your real life, it can sometimes feel like you’re always “on.”
There’s also the challenge of constantly creating new content, staying relevant, adapting to changes in social media, and figuring out how to grow without losing the authenticity that made people connect with @austinconhijos in the first place.
There have been moments of self-doubt, slow growth, and times when I’ve wondered whether all the work behind the scenes was worth it. But those challenges have also taught me to be more patient, consistent, and intentional about what I create.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Through @austinconhijos, I create family-focused content that helps parents discover things to do, places to eat, events to attend, and experiences to enjoy with their kids in Austin and the surrounding area.
I specialize in finding and sharing experiences that are genuinely useful for families—not just what looks good on social media, but places and activities that parents can actually enjoy with their children. I love discovering hidden gems, supporting local businesses, and turning those experiences into content that inspires families to get out and explore their own city.
What I’m most proud of is the community that has grown around the account. Knowing that a family discovered a new favorite place, found an activity for the weekend, or simply felt more connected to the Austin community because of something I shared means a lot to me.
I think what sets @austinconhijos apart is the personal connection. This isn’t just a local guide—it comes from the perspective of a parent and a family actually experiencing these places. I try to keep the content authentic, approachable, and relatable, while creating genuine connections between families, local businesses, and the community.
At the end of the day, I’m proud that something that started with sharing our own family experiences has grown into a platform that helps other families create memories of their own.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is spending time with my family and creating memories together. I love seeing my kids experience something new, discovering a place we’ve never been, or simply having one of those everyday moments that we know we’ll look back on someday.
I also genuinely enjoy discovering Austin and sharing it with other families. There’s something really rewarding about finding a great local spot or a fun experience and then hearing from a family who tried it because of @austinconhijos.
I think that’s what makes this work so meaningful to me. It combines two things I love: my family and my community. Knowing that what we do can inspire other families to spend more time together, explore their city, and make memories of their own makes me incredibly happy.
