Rising Stars: Meet Brio Cooney of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brio Cooney.

Hi Brio, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Brio Photography began as a one-woman operation and has since grown into a small, dedicated team. Over time, the studio has expanded its work across weddings, families, couples, individuals, and commercial photography. That commercial background continues to shape Brio’s approach, bringing a thoughtful mix of creativity, technical expertise, and personal connection to every session. Today, Brio is proud to serve clients from Austin and beyond while making the photography experience comfortable, polished, and enjoyable.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not always! Building a photography business while being a mother of four has definitely come with its challenges. Balancing family life, the demands of the business, and the creative side of what we do hasn’t always been easy. Aoib and I have also had to learn how to grow the business together while keeping our work personal and meaningful. There have been busy seasons, unexpected hurdles, and plenty of learning along the way. But I think those experiences have made us more flexible, more appreciative, and better at what we do. It’s been a journey, and we’re grateful for everything it has taught us.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Photography has always been about more than just taking pictures for me. I love that every project is different and that I get to work with so many different people. It’s a creative job, but it’s also very personal, and I think that’s what keeps it interesting.

I’m especially proud of the team we’ve built and the relationships we’ve made with our clients over the years. Aoib and I have also enjoyed growing the business together. It’s been rewarding to see how far we’ve come while still keeping the work personal.

I think what sets us apart is that we’re able to adapt to different kinds of projects without losing what makes our work ours. We care about the images, of course, but we also care about the experience. I’m proud that we get to do work we love and that people trust us to be part of important moments in their lives.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was playing hide-and-seek after dark with the kids in our neighborhood. We’d get so into the game that someone would always end up hiding in a spot that was way too obvious, while the rest of us would try not to laugh and give them away. Sometimes we’d stay outside until someone’s mom called them home. It was such a simple thing, but those nights were always full of laughter and fun.
