Life & Work with Celina St. Hilaire of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celina St. Hilaire.

Hi Celina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
This business really started with the first one I ever opened at 19 years old, Refined Rooms. I went into women’s homes and brought order and peace of mind to their closets.

That work grew into styling professional athletes as they moved out of their playing careers. I helped them present themselves well in their new professional settings.

During that time I was earning my intercultural communications degree in Dallas. This is where started my second business, The Angle of You. It began as a branding, photography and storytelling business, with styling offered on the side.

1 decade later and I’m in Austin with styling as my main focus. I work with licensed professionals and women in career transitions who want a firm foundation for the next chapter. Together we make sure how they show up reflects who they are and what they do, so they can walk in confidence and authority.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. I started my first business at nineteen to make ends meet. I was going through the darkest season of my life, and my creativity is what carried me through it.

During that time I left school for two years. I needed clarity about what I wanted to do with my life.

At twenty-one I went back and studied intercultural communications. I also started my photography business. I loved photography and storytelling, but I knew deep down it wasn’t the whole picture. Wrestling with that took real honesty. It’s hard to admit that something you’re good at, and passionate about, isn’t the thing you’re called to.

The biggest lesson has been that entrepreneurship is a self-improvement journey. Your business can only go as far as you believe it can. Much of my growth has come from working through my own doubts and choosing to keep going. That persistence is what brought me here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a personal stylist and color analyst. Through The Angle of You, I help licensed and transitioning professionals build a wardrobe that matches who they are and where they’re headed.

I see clients one-on-one, and I also host color analysis events for luxury apartment communities, boutiques and private homes.

What sets me apart is that I’m not just a stylist. Most stylists start with clothes and ask, “What can we buy?” I start with what you already have and who you’re already becoming. That’s a completely different process, and it’s a diagnostic one. Color analysis, body shape and style archetype show us the full picture before anything new comes in.

What I’m most proud of is the moment in the mirror when a client truly sees herself again. That’s what our brand line means: she doesn’t look like what she’s been through, because she’s finally stepping into who she truly is.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in favor. The favor of God has led my path through and through, though it hasn’t been an easy one, and it hasn’t been seamless. I’ve seen Him quite literally make opportunities come out of nowhere, out of nothing. There have been many learning curves, and there still are, but He is constantly making a way for me and for my business.
