Check Out Chris Freeman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Freeman.

Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in HVAC at the very bottom, working as a helper making about $500 a week. My oldest son was still a baby at the time, and like most young families, we were just trying to find our footing and build a better future.

Over the years, I worked my way through installation, became a lead installer, transitioned into service, and eventually moved into sales. Having experienced nearly every side of the industry, I developed a pretty unique perspective on what it takes to do this job well and, more importantly, what customers should be able to expect from the people they trust in their homes.

Throughout my career, I’ve always felt an immense sense of responsibility toward customers. Whether they were my customers or someone else’s, I believed they deserved honest answers, quality workmanship, and someone who genuinely had their best interests in mind.

As time went on, I started noticing a significant shift within the HVAC industry. Many of the big, recognizable household names seemed to be turning into cookie-cutter versions of one another, and not necessarily in a good way. The focus increasingly seemed to be on sales, numbers, and growth rather than the people we were supposed to be serving.

I had become very successful in my career, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that things could be done better. It wasn’t one particular event that pushed me to start my own company. It was a gradual realization that if I wanted to see something different in this industry, I was probably going to have to create it myself.

So, I started Comfort Pros Heating & Air Conditioning.

My goal wasn’t simply to start another HVAC company. I wanted to build something that challenged what people had come to expect from our industry. A company built around technical expertise, exceptional workmanship, transparency, and a genuine commitment to doing what’s right.

I’ve never believed that quality and integrity should be mutually exclusive with running a successful business. Customers deserve thoughtful recommendations, properly designed and installed systems, and a contractor who stands behind their work. Delivering that level of service requires investing in the right people, equipment, training, and processes, and those are investments I’m committed to making.

Today, we’re continuing to grow throughout Northwest Austin, Cedar Park, Leander, and the surrounding communities. While I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in such a short time, I’m even more excited about what we’re building.

For me, Comfort Pros is about proving that you can build a successful business without compromising the values that made you want to do the work in the first place.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is truly a crash course in just about everything. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that just because you’re good at your trade doesn’t necessarily mean you’re good at running a business. They’re two completely different skill sets.

I spent years developing my technical knowledge, working with customers, and learning the HVAC industry inside and out. But when you start your own company, suddenly you’re wearing every hat imaginable. You’re the technician, salesperson, accountant, marketing department, customer service representative, and everything in between.

The real challenge isn’t necessarily wearing all those hats. It’s knowing which one you need to wear in any given situation, and sometimes those situations come without any warning. You have to be able to adapt, make decisions, and figure things out as you go. There’s not always a playbook to follow.

And here’s something that might come as a shock: just because you open a business doesn’t mean the community magically knows you exist!

Building brand awareness and earning the trust of a community takes an incredible amount of time and effort, especially in an industry as competitive as HVAC. You can provide exceptional service, but none of that matters if people don’t know who you are.

One of the more interesting challenges has been figuring out what actually works. When it comes to marketing and growing a business, you can make just about anything work if you throw enough money at it. But when you’re a smaller company, you don’t have the luxury of unlimited resources. You have to be strategic, willing to experiment, and constantly evaluate where your time and money are going. It’s not just about spending money to grow; it’s about making sure the resources you have are working for you.

Thankfully, I’ve found the business side of things to be incredibly fulfilling. I’ve actually developed a real passion for marketing, branding, and finding creative ways to connect with our community. There’s something really rewarding about watching an idea turn into a recognizable brand and knowing that every bit of progress is something you’ve worked to build.

Of course, balancing all those responsibilities comes with its challenges. There are only so many hours in a day, and learning where to focus your attention, when to delegate, and how to maintain the level of quality you expect can be difficult.

But I think that’s also what makes entrepreneurship so rewarding. You’re constantly learning, adapting, and challenging yourself in ways you probably never expected.

We’ve been fortunate to experience tremendous growth in a relatively short period of time, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. Now the challenge is making sure we continue building the right way, without losing the personal attention, quality, and integrity that Comfort Pros was founded on.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Comfort Pros Heating & Air Conditioning is a locally owned residential HVAC company serving Northwest Austin, Cedar Park, Leander, and the surrounding communities. We specialize in residential heating and cooling, including system diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and complete system replacements.

What I believe sets us apart is our approach to the work itself. HVAC is an incredibly technical trade, yet I think a lot of homeowners have become accustomed to a fairly basic experience: someone shows up, looks at the equipment, and either recommends a repair or tries to sell them something new.

I believe there’s a lot more to it than that.

We put a tremendous emphasis on understanding how a system actually performs. That means looking beyond whether the air conditioner turns on and blows cold air. We’re evaluating airflow, static pressure, refrigerant performance, system design, and how all those components work together to deliver comfort throughout the home.

We invest heavily in professional diagnostic equipment, training, and the processes necessary to make informed recommendations. Whether we’re troubleshooting an existing system or designing a replacement, I want our customers to understand not just what we’re recommending, but why we’re recommending it.

I’m also a firm believer that quality workmanship isn’t something you should have to ask for. The details matter, even the ones a homeowner may never see. Proper installation practices, thoughtful system design, and taking the time to do things correctly can make a tremendous difference in how equipment performs over its lifetime.

But beyond the technical side, I think what I’m most proud of is the reputation we’re building. Starting a company from nothing and watching people throughout our community begin to recognize, trust, and recommend Comfort Pros has been incredibly rewarding.

We’re not trying to compete by being the cheapest option, nor are we trying to be the biggest company overnight. We’re focused on building a company known for its expertise, professionalism, quality, and the experience we provide our customers.

Ultimately, I want Comfort Pros to be the company people think of when they want something done right, and a company they’re confident recommending to their friends and family.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that I absolutely love to cook! During the summer, when the HVAC business is going a million miles an hour, I often find myself wishing I could just take an entire day off and spend it in the kitchen or out by the BBQ. Between long days and busy schedules, we end up eating out more than I’d like, and honestly, I get tired of it! I genuinely enjoy cooking, trying new things, and making a great meal. It’s something I wish I had more time to do, especially during our busiest months.
