Exploring Life & Business with LisA Brzostek of Transtatic Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to LisA Brzostek.

Hi LisA, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ahoy! I grew up on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, a small beach town where I spent my childhood dreaming of a career in television and film. Even as a kid, I was drawn to storytelling, creating and editing videos for our school’s homeroom news. Looking back, I guess I was getting an early start on my career without even realizing it!

I went on to study Media Production at Florida State University, where I worked closely with the university’s sports programs and continued developing my love for production and editing. After graduation, I packed up and trekked across the country to Los Angeles, right in the middle of the reality TV boom. I quickly fell in love with the fast pace, unpredictable nature, and wild adventures that come with unscripted television. No two days were ever the same, and honestly, that’s still one of my favorite things about this industry.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects for networks and platforms including ABC, Netflix, PBS, Hulu, and many more. Somewhere along the way, I also met my husband, Chris, an Emmy-nominated editor who shares my passion for storytelling. Together, we’ve built our own production company, Transtatic Entertainment, where we work on everything from television series and documentaries to commercials and branded content. We’ve been fortunate to build careers doing what we love, and getting to collaborate as husband and wife makes it even more special.

In 2017, we came to Austin for what was supposed to be a six-month contract. Nearly a decade later, we’re still here and have never looked back! Austin gave us the perfect balance of creative opportunity and a lifestyle we love. Outside of work, staying active is a huge part of my life. CrossFit and yoga keep me sane, balanced, and ready for whatever chaos the entertainment industry throws my way. And when we’re not buried in edits or developing our next project, you’ll find us tending to our little urban farm, where nine chickens, a couple of cats, and two dogs keep life just as entertaining as anything we produce!

What started as a six-month adventure turned into a place to put down roots, build a business, and create a life we absolutely love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely been a little Rocky Road at times, but thankfully, there have been plenty of Smooth Vanilla stretches along the way! Can you tell I love a pun?

That’s the nature of working in a freelance industry. There are always ebbs and flows, and the entertainment landscape is constantly evolving. What people want to watch, how they consume content, and the technology we use to bring stories to life are always changing. You have to be willing to adapt, stay curious, and keep learning. Chris and I have made it a priority to stay ahead of those changes, embrace new opportunities, and continue finding creative ways to tell great stories.

One thing this industry has taught us is that nothing lasts forever, whether it’s a busy season or a slow one. So, when we do have downtime, we try to embrace it rather than stress about what’s next. You’ll usually find us hiking Onion Creek with our dogs, spending a day out on Lake Travis, or just enjoying everything Austin has to offer.

We’ve learned that success isn’t just about staying busy. It’s also about making the most of the life we’re building along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Transtatic Entertainment?
Transtatic Entertainment is a full-service video production company that my husband, Chris, and I have built around our shared love of storytelling. We specialize in creating original television series, documentaries, and branded content for network, cable, and digital platforms. From developing an idea on a napkin to delivering the final cut, we love being part of the entire creative process.

Our background is rooted in unscripted television, where we’ve spent years finding compelling characters, uncovering fascinating stories, and turning countless hours of footage into something audiences connect with. We’ve worked on everything from home renovation and lifestyle programming to sports documentaries, true crime, and commercial projects. We like to think of ourselves as creative chameleons. Every project brings something different, and that’s what keeps us excited about what we do.

What really sets us apart is that we’re storytellers first, but we also understand the technical side of making those stories happen. Between the two of us, we bring decades of experience in producing, editing, and post-production. We’re just as comfortable brainstorming a new series concept as we are rolling up our sleeves and getting into the nitty-gritty of an edit. And because we’re a small, hands-on company, our clients work directly with us. There’s no big corporate machine, just two people who genuinely care about making great content and a talented network of creatives we collaborate with along the way.

I think what I’m most proud of is the relationships we’ve built and the fact that we’ve created a business that allows us to keep doing what we love. This industry is constantly evolving, and we’ve been able to grow with it while staying true to what got us started in the first place: a curiosity about people and a passion for telling their stories.

At the end of the day, whether we’re working on a television series, developing a documentary, or helping a brand bring its vision to life, our goal is always the same: find the heart of the story and make something worth watching.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Austin is the pace of life and the incredible sense of community. We’ve found our own little gem of a neighborhood in South Austin, where we’re walking distance from local bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and gyms. We don’t even have an HOA, yet our neighbors come together to organize block parties and community events all on their own! Austin really embraces a healthy, happy, and active lifestyle.

And believe it or not, I love that Austin has “seasons!” Growing up in the Northeast, I actually get excited when the temperatures drop. Some people might complain when it snows in Texas, but I’m more than happy to break out my parka, cozy up, and spend a chilly Sunday watching football. Go Birds!

As for what I like least? August… when I’m working! I absolutely love a hot summer day spent swimming, soaking up the sun, and lounging by the pool. But when I’m stuck inside working and it’s 105 degrees outside, that’s a different story! I guess my only real complaint about Austin is when the weather is too good (or too hot!) to be sitting behind a computer.
