Today we’d like to introduce you to Blair Hunter.
Hi Blair, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been drawn to health and wellbeing for as long as I can remember. I started practicing yoga over 20 years ago and have been meditating for almost 15 years. Along the way, I’ve explored a wide range of ancient and modern healing modalities to support my own health and vitality and to help others feel their best.
I grew up in Georgia and earned my Master’s in Nutrition from the University of Georgia. During that time I was very mindful of what I put IN my body as I avoided any food with artificial coloring among other ingredients. One day in 2004, I had a revelation about what I was putting ON my body. I realized that I was taking in artificial colors, along with so many other toxins, through my lipstick, cosmetics, and skin care. There was far less information and product selection back then, so I went on a deep dive into clean beauty which evolved into so much more.
Over the next ten years, I found clean cosmetic and skin care brands I loved. I had a hunch that other people wanted safer products that also felt luxurious and beautiful. After surveying multiple people to support my hypothesis, I opened my first brick and mortar store, Fig & Flower, a clean beauty boutique in Atlanta. I sold my portion shortly thereafter to move to San Francisco with the company that I was working for at the time (yes, I was working a full time job too!). I’m proud to say that Fig & Flower is still thriving in Atlanta today.
My path into energy healing began when I moved to San Francisco, where I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training at Integral Yoga and began receiving Reiki attunements on my path to becoming a Reiki Master. After moving to Austin, I opened another clean beauty concept in mid-2019, Lovejay Beauty, that weaved in yoga, meditation, and reiki. Given Lovejay opened only a few months before the pandemic paired with becoming pregnant with my son in early 2020, I closed Lovejay pretty quickly but knew it wasn’t my last project!
In 2025, after more than two decades of working in corporate America and start ups, I knew it was time to step away and devote my time and heart to holding healing space for others. Salt & Soul is the culmination and refinement of years of personal practice and helping others through yoga, meditation, reiki, biomagnetism, and more. That’s the “Soul”. The “Salt” came from seeing how much salt therapy helped my five year old son with his allergies. As a yoga and meditation practitioner and teacher, the last thing I expected was a mouth breathing kiddo!! I tried all kinds of things to help him, and salt therapy worked wonders. Salt is also so calming and energetically cleansing, which makes it a beautiful partner to the “soul” work and a lovely treatment after a reiki session.
I am so thankful for the path that led to Salt & Soul and for everyone who has walked through our doors since we opened in February of this year!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d describe it as a winding road. Each turn has brought me somewhere I needed to be, and I’ve come to trust where it leads.
The biggest challenges have been internal ones. Learning to trust myself and believe that I’m good enough has been a big part of this journey. Walking away from a steady paycheck after more than two decades in the corporate world is a super scary decision. There’s a quiet voice that asks whether you can really do what you love and also earn enough to run a business and support the life you want. My yoga, meditation, and reiki practices help me come back to center whenever those doubts show up.
One of my biggest lessons has been accepting that I am not good at everything, and that’s perfectly okay. I also realized the only person setting unrealistic expectations was me, so I’ve been letting those go. These days I’m really leaning into flow. I keep asking myself where things are flowing and where they feel stuck. I’ve learned to let go of what is stuck pretty quickly so my energy and the energy of Salt & Soul can go where it’s meant to. Every step forward has built a little more trust in myself. Every person who walks into Salt & Soul is a reminder that following my heart was worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Salt & Soul. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Salt & Soul is a holistic healing space in North Central Austin, offering biomagnetic therapy, reiki, salt therapy and more. Our space has been thoughtfully curated through partnering with as many local and/or small businesses as possible. We strive to create the most non-toxic environment possible through the use of all natural cleaning products, zero VOC paint, low EMF wifi, non-toxic furniture, and more.
Salt & Soul is one of a small handful of spaces in Austin that offers salt therapy. Additionally, I am one of a small number of certified practitioners offering Biomagnetism in Austin.
Salt therapy (halotherapy) is a natural wellness practice that involves breathing in micro-particles of pure sodium chloride in a relaxing environment. A machine called a halogenerator grinds salt into tiny particles and disperses them into the air. As you breathe, the salt enters your respiratory system and works to:
*Reduce inflammation
*Clear mucus and congestion
*Eliminate bacteria and pathogens
*Soothe irritated airways
*Support immune function
At Salt & Soul, we have two salt rooms – a group room and a private room. We also offer salt therapy for kids with toys and kids absolutely love it – all while clearing their respiratory tract and boosting immunity!
Biomagnetism is a therapy that uses pairs of magnets placed on specific points of the body to help restore balance. The idea behind this work is that a healthy body maintains a stable pH and magnetic field. Pathogens, toxins, and imbalances thrive in environments that are too acidic or too alkaline. By placing magnets at specific points, we create a shift that helps bring these areas back toward balance, supporting the body’s own ability to heal.
The magnets create a therapeutic magnetic field that helps:
-Reduce inflammation
-Eliminate pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites)
-Restore cellular function
-Support detoxification
-Rebalance your body’s energy systems
In addition to salt therapy and biomagnetism, we offer reiki, infrared sauna, PEMF mat, sound baths, private events and studio rentals.
How do you think about luck?
I see what people call “good luck” as the way energy moves when we’re in alignment. When I have a vision and pure intention and my actions match that intention, the right people, places, and opportunities tend to show up. Looking back, moving to San Francisco, finding my teachers, and discovering how much salt therapy could help my son all happened at moments when I was open and paying attention.
Things don’t always unfold the way we expect or hope. When I was laid off from a startup in San Francisco, it was something I never saw coming and also something that I couldn’t change. Some people would call this “bad luck” but accepting it opened me up to the idea of moving, and that’s how I ended up in Austin. When we push too hard and try to force an outcome that isn’t for our highest good, we tend to constrict the flow which can make things feel really hard. Forcing things that only serve ourselves or come from a limited view, whether they come from ego, fear, scarcity, a need for approval, etc., may get the outcome we thought we wanted but it ends up causing suffering. These examples are often what people call bad luck. What people call good luck feels to me like what happens when we stay open and allow things to move with ease.
I try to follow the yogic philosophy of taking the next right action and releasing attachment to the outcome. Easier said than done sometimes, but that’s what I try to do each day. I stay present, do the work in front of me, and trust that what’s meant for me will find its way.
