Life & Work with Nick Stolte of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Stolte.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I knew from a young age I was musically inclined. I learned early on that singing brought me comfort & uplifted me & I wanted to bring that feeling to others. I started taking music lessons locally. I began with guitar & voice & then adding keys. As my journey progressed I wanted to learn drums. It was through one of the local music schools I met my current mentors, Ryan Holley & Travis Woodard. They both saw my drive & determination to be a better musician despite all obstacles I had dealing with some anxiety related issues. They took me under their wing to mentor & teach me everything about my instruments, music theory, performance & the music industry in general. I would not be where I am today in my music journey without their guidance & mentorship. I have performed at showcases, open mics & local community festivals. I currently have the honor of guest singing monthly with The Switcharoos. I’m thankful for every opportunity to get on a stage & be able to sing & play music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been easy. To keep it brief at a young age I was diagnosed with Selective Mutism & later into my adulthood social anxiety disorder. I credit my love of music for getting me through some tough battles with these anxiety related issues. Performance based therapy has helped me to better handle getting on stage performing to a live audience. On days where the anxiety wants to win, I try to stay focused on my goals & keep pushing forward. I’ve experienced the power of music & how it can change a person’s life. Music has been my saving grace.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a multi instrumentalist, but I’m best known for my voice. I have a unique sound & singing ability. In April, 2024 I released my first single, “The Veil”. It’s a song about reflecting on the memories & loss of someone very dear to me. I took the pain of that loss & poured it into songwriting & composing a sound that I felt would both honor their memory & hopefully be relatable to the listener. Today I continue to write & compose music.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Something I’ve learned over the years is, you can’t fully learn, grow & improve without taking risk. You have to be willing to put yourself out there, even if you fall on your face or knock it out of the park. Whatever happens for the good or bad, there is always something to learn from it. I feel my entire journey has been a risk. I’ve learned a lot from it & I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown as a person.
