Aswini, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story really begins at home, shaped by the family and elders around me and who raised me. My mother, grandmothers, great-grandmothers taught me to respect the earth, appreciate natural ingredients, and show care through food and hospitality. They also taught me humility and to treat everyone with equal dignity. My father brought a different influence: an engineer’s curiosity and determination to solve problems.
SESA, Sesa Pure and our subsidiary brand products grew from those two sides of my upbringing. I wanted to share the richness of Indian tea, nourishing herbal infusions and the everyday wisdom of Ayurveda in a way that feels welcoming and relevant today. What began as a passion for healing energy of plant ingredients has grown into a small business built around cherished ingredients and carefully crafted teas, trusted growers, and simple daily rituals. For me, a cup of tea is an invitation to slow down, be present, ground, and care for ourselves and one another.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not been without challenges. Building an independent business has meant navigating distribution challenges, rising costs, and the constant balancing act between doing things well and keeping the business sustainable. Beyond those practical demands, there is a constant current of deeply personal accountability and sacrifice, a quiet cost that isn’t always visible. Rebuilding our team after COVID was especially difficult. There were moments when we had to rethink how we worked and what kind of growth truly made sense for us.
One of the hardest lessons was realizing that not every opportunity is the right opportunity. We stepped away from some retail and distribution relationships so we could protect our quality, our people, and the values behind our products. It was a difficult decision, yet it gave us peace and clarity. Today, I’m grateful for a close-knit team that believes in what we’re building. We’re still learning, and we’re moving forward with greater intention.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At SESA and Sesa Pure we strive to create premium experiences with high quality teas and botanical blends inspired by Ayurveda, the traditional Indian approach to wellbeing that emphasizes balance and daily living. We want to make those principles approachable, not complicated or intimidating, through a simple, enjoyable ritual people can prepare their own. We want to make experiences less overwhelming, and more encouraging, healthy and restorative.
What sets us apart is the care behind each cup. We work with a trusted and known network of small growers, giving meticulous attention to the journey of the ingredients from sourcing to handling and blending traditional wisdom and inspiration together with modern craftsmanship. We care about experience and flavor as much as our guiding philosophy.
I’m proudest that we’ve stayed true to our purpose, even when that meant choosing a quieter path. Success, to me, is building a business where our team, growers, and customers feel respected and cared for, and where the products genuinely reflect what we believe.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think people will ask more thoughtful questions about what they consume: Where do the ingredients come from? Who grows them? What is actually in the product? And does the company live by the values it talks about?
I also see a growing interest in small, sustainable wellness habits rather than quick fixes. That’s where Ayurveda has something meaningful to contribute. Its emphasis on balance, awareness, and everyday routines can be shared in a practical, modern way, without making exaggerated challenging promises.
My hope is that the next chapter of the tea industry celebrates origin, craftsmanship, and transparency, and all of it truly honors the women behind the scenes whose labor and heritage shape these remarkable traditions. At Sesa Pure, we are proud to be part of that change, one cup and one daily ritual at a time.
