Conversations with Raccoon Brothers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raccoon Brothers. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Raccoon Brothers was born out of an old friendship — 2 longtime musician friends from the Midwest who came to Texas many years ago to make music in a new band together, escape cold winters and build a better life. The five current members of the band came together slowly as the sound and shows evolved. Everyone brings a variety of musical influences and experiences in other bands to the table to create music we feel celebrates the small victories in life and growth from the trials and tribulations in between. It’s an Americana sound that features scrappy guitar licks, tight harmonies, and thoughtful lyrics with songs that swing from toe-tapping to two-stepping.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being in a band rarely makes for a smooth road. Whether it’s creative disagreements, scheduling or fighting for fair pay for your work, making music is something we do because we love it and believe in it, never because it’s an easy path. What we get when we’re making something we’re proud of and get to see others feeling, enjoying, and relating to it — that makes all the hard work and challenges worth it.

It’s always good to remember that most bands you see outside of an extremely large venue setting are working other jobs and still hustling in their daily lives to perform for you, just because they love making music. Living through the pandemic, hopefully now more than ever, people appreciate the beauty that live music creates and the hard work it takes to make it happen.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Raccoon Brothers is a hard working live band. We played nearly a hundred shows in 2019 before COVID-19 shut things down for the world in 2020. As a small independent band, we’re proud of our work ethic, how often we play, and the experience we give audiences — whether it’s for hundreds of people or 25. You can expect to laugh, think, dance… and maybe even shed a tear at a Raccoon Brothers show if you’re listening to the lyrics.

We’re proud of our self-produced EPs available online, and we’re so excited to finally release our full-length album later this year. We recorded it in February of 2020 with plans for a spring album release and tour and have shelved it until later this year when we feel we can safely play shows again and properly support it.

How do you think about happiness?
Making music together brings us a joy that’s pretty indescribable. Being on stage in front of an enthusiastic crowd is hard to beat. When we’re locked in on a song together, putting on a good show, those are some of the happiest moments we have together.

Outside of our work in this band, it’s time with our families, our friends, and out in nature that brings us all a lot of peace and happiness.

I have known Ryan and Matt for a very long time. Actually, Ryan is my son, and Matt, I love him like a son.
These two have been great friends for an EXTREMELY long time.
Matt and Ryan have cheered for each other through good times and cried for each other through hard times and closer now than they were in high school.
They work hard and they play hard. Music, other than their families, is their greatest love.
Give them a listen, I promise you, you will NOT BE disappointed!!
    Love you guys!! Momma
