Inspiring Conversations with Krista Nerestant of Self-ish Lifestyle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Nerestant.

Hi Krista, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came out of the ‘Spiritual Closet’ at 32 years old and began my journey on recognizing my abilities as a spiritual medium and Psychic, not as a curse, but as a gift. When I was in the beginning stages of entertaining my uncanny gifts, in 2013, I fought an inward battle that questioned my sanity. “Fuck! Do I need to be institutionalized?” However, my rational self answered back confidently — “No. you’re not the first Medium or Psychic. Get over yourself.” I studied the world of spirit and worked with world-renowned mediums and psychics until my daily doggy paddles in the pool of spirit eventually became a bona fide breaststroke. I swam confidently into the ocean of spirit. This spiritual journey also led to my healing journey. When I opened self-ishlifestyle.com after seeing clients, I recognized that I needed not to only served the spiritual aspects but also share practical techniques that would serve the mental and emotional bodies so that one may be in their best and highest good and never be dependent on my services. This allowed me to integrate life coaching into a session. I became certified as a Neuro Linguistic Lifecoach and am trained in the Satir Method of Therapy to healing individual, group, and family dynamics. The culmination of this entire experience is my book– Indestructible: The Hidden Gifts of Trauma. I share not only my experiences growing up in the Philippines and migrating into the US as a young woman and having to endure and overcome multiple traumas, but also the discovery of gifts I used then and now to thrive in this life. The Memoir That Will Disrupt Society’s Perspective On Trauma Instead of wincing from pain, readers will be empowered in recognizing the hidden gifts of trauma.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t smooth, but the routes consisted of curvy roads with lots of detours. An adventurous journey, constantly shifting and adapting. The destination doesn’t change, but the path on getting there may alter. When I began seeing clients in the first year, a question would repeat itself in my mind; How can I help others if I myself am not healed? I made the hard decision to take a year off to heal and also obtain certifications in NLP coaching and The Satir Method of Therapy.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The entrepreneurial journey requires resilience. Resilience is a superpower that may be misconstrued with tolerance. The difference is the practice of resilience results in self-accountability and responsibility while the other perpetuates the victimhood mindset. The hard part is implementing the one that honors your circumstance. You will have to be your very own champion, cheerleader, and disciplinarian.
