Meet Rebekah Epstein of Fifteen Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Epstein.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my business, fifteen media, right after college. I was looking for a full-time job in PR and I couldn’t find one, so I started doing freelance work. The rest is history; I have been running my own PR firm ever since! Now, I not only take on client work, but I also teach DIY PR courses.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For me, the biggest struggle about running my own business has been finding confidence and knowing that I’m good enough. While it can be a struggle to get to the point where you have confidence in your work (I’m ten years in and I still struggle with imposter syndrome!), it will really dictate every decision you make so it’s important to constantly remind yourself that you are good at what you do. If you don’t believe in yourself, then no one else will.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fifteen Media?
Fifteen Media is a boutique PR firm that specializes in media relations. We help get people the media attention that they deserve! In the past ten years, I’ve worked with hundreds of small businesses and 50+ prominent national PR firms to increase their media placements. I also teach PR workshops and offer online courses for businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations that want to take the DIY approach! While there is a certain finesse to PR, I honestly believe that anyone can be their own publicist with the right tools.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice would be to continuously reach out to people that you want to connect with. I am always looking for new people to meet, both in and outside of my industry. The more you put yourself out there, the more people you will meet and the more potential opportunities you’ll have down the road.

For finding a mentor, I would recommend joining an organization that pairs you with one. This can make it easier and less overwhelming to find one. Local organizations like Young Women’s Alliance do this and are a great place to start!
