Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Smith.
Hi Teresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was exploring what to do for a business back in 2016 where I would be able to work from anywhere. Meanwhile, I was helping friends with styles for events, travel, and everyday trends. I was active on social media as a hobby and realized it was gaining quite a bit of traction with women in midlife. In 2017, I started building a plan to make this a business and researching how influencing and marketing worked. In 2018, I hired a brand manager to help me create my brand, website and my social media platforms and made my dream come true as far as a business. I love helping and supporting other women in business and inspiring these women who are in midlife to find their confidence in life again.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am not a techy person, so learning and navigating my platforms is always a struggle. I’m still learning and feel so behind. Not to mention how social media is constantly evolving so I am having to learn on almost a daily basis the updates and additions that are coming about. I just read that the CEO of Instagram is going to make the platform more of a video feed (to compete with TikTok, which I never planned on doing) and do away with pictures, the struggle is real! What?!?!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Lifestyle Influencer targeting women in midlife. I create content (collaborate) for brands on social media and my blog to help with brand awareness and marketing. So I take pictures with products and create videos for brands. My primary focus is beauty, fashion, and a healthy lifestyle. I am most proud of the fact that I created a business that is mine – I never thought of myself as an entrepreneur, I was always a worker bee and loved working with teams/people. I have created this on my own and it is successful and I still work with people on a different level. The relationships that I have forged through social media make my heart so happy and mean the world to me!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I reached out to women on social media that were 40+ and asked a lot of questions and every one I reached out to was so helpful and open to collaborating to help guide me as I was learning and growing on social media. Find that person(s) who is like-minded and successful that is in your arena, and ask them how they became successful and take all the tips you can get to help you be successful.
