Rising Stars: Meet Brittany O’Brien

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany O’Brien.

Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m the owner of Wild Lovers Photography. I started photography five years ago with no idea how photography worked or where this adventure would lead me. My parents got me a Christmas gift 2015 that was actually my first starter camera, little did I know how much I would appreciate that years to come. In 2016 I moved to Texas from small-town Ripon, California. I had nothing under my belt other than a license in phlebotomy (this I knew would not be my forever job). Money was tight and I knew I needed a game plan to make my dreams come to life. I had met a good friend of mine named Cameron who asked me if I had any interest in wedding photography, I immediately jumped and asked how can I get started. I at the time had only done a few family and friends photos for fun but knew I absolutely loved being behind the camera just didn’t know how to get jump-started to make it full time. From there, I followed Cam to a few weddings then took the leap to dive in myself. I basically breathe, sleep, ate photography from that point on and knew that if this was the dream I wanted to live, I had to give it 100%.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m an ulcerative colitis survivor. I had seven surgeries, during one doctor penetrate my internal pouch that left the poisons spreading throughout my body. I was put into an induced coma for three weeks that they thought I wouldn’t wake up from, but I did. After battling four long years, I kicked that crap out {literally}. Dr Remzi once told me, “life is for living” and I sure plan to live fully thanks to my hero.

There have been people who doubted me… didn’t believe in me but that was only my motivation to prove them all wrong. I also wanted to prove to myself how strong I really was. SO I became the lady boss I knew I could be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in weddings, bridals, engagements and bridal boudoir. I also offer family, couples, seniors, fresh 48s, maternity and basically anything my camera can capture for someone’s special moments.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
If you are fortunate enough to stumble across a mentor, take all you can learn. Join workshops, ask friends who have similar interest, reach out to other photographers to ask simple questions. I had no schooling behind my belt with photography all self made & studied from my mentors. Give it your all, never give up. Dreams are possible to reach, keep pushing forward from there always strive to be better than yesterday. When the good Lord calls me home, I hope to be remembered for that photographer who never gave up and always made people feel special.
