Today we’d like to introduce you to Sloane Coe.
Sloane, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Louisiana State University in Apparel Design. Living in Louisiana, there were not many fashion careers available. So, right out of college I started my own graphic design T-shirt company. When that failed, I became lost and had no idea what to do with my career. I impulsively got a job working at a doctor’s office in Baton Rouge. Although I loved my job at the time, I knew I had much more to offer. I was not going to let my artistic talents go to waste. Every day I was thinking about my future. I wanted a job that was rewarding and challenging. I discovered cosmetic tattooing and I instantly knew I had a love for it. Once I decided to change career paths, I did not waste any time. In less than six months, I quit my job, I started a new career, I moved to a new city, and I opened my own business. I felt like I finally found what I was meant to do in life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first thought to this question was, no, it definitely has not been a smooth road. But, the more I sat and thought about it, I realized it could have been much worse. I am appreciative of the journey that led me to where I am now because I grew so much as a person. Deciding to become a cosmetic tattoo artist did not happen overnight. I spent a couple of years obsessing over what to do with life and how to move forward. My weekends were spent researching for job ideas, but nothing stuck out to me. I always loved the idea of opening my own business, but it all seemed so far-fetched. Plus, my first business was not a success. Once I discovered tattooing and the interest I had for it, I became in love with the idea. After I took all of my classes, my days were spent figuring out how to put together a successful business. I was currently living in Louisiana, but I knew I wanted to grow in a bigger city. Fast forward a couple of long months and I am now a tattoo artist in Austin, TX. Just typing that last sentence made me emotional. I have never been more proud of myself. I am the type of person I would have looked up to a couple of years ago, and now that is me. Wow.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cosmetic tattoo artist who specializes in permanent makeup. My services include microblading, powder brows, combo brows, lash line enhancement, and lip blush. I think something that sets me apart from other artists is that I offer all services on my own. Starting my own business is definitely what I am most proud of.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am new to Austin, so building a clientele has definitely been one of the more difficult things. People can help support me by telling their friends and family or anyone who they think may be interested in what I do. Collaborating with other artists in the beauty industry would be very cool and I would definitely be open to that. I post everything on my Instagram account, so even sharing my Instagram would be so helpful.
