Today we’d like to introduce you to Ingrid Barnhart.
Hi Ingrid, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always liked photography and saw my dad documenting everything with his camera when I as a kid. But not only until I moved here from my home country (Colombia) 9 years ago, that I thought about doing photography as my job. I didn’t do it immediately, it took me time to learn, to clarify what I wanted to do and finally, in 2016 I decided to start my own business.
I am always looking to give my clients the best experience! I love the idea to make these memories for my clients to treasure forever, and their future generations. Like my dad did in my family. I still have tons of photos of EVERYTHING, our travels, our Christmas, pictures of my brother and me the day we were born. That, for me, is priceless and extremely special.
I am now married and have two beautiful daughters. I take pictures of them very often and make albums so they can have them forever and show their own kids.
I do love photography. I love to freeze moments and emotions.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am very lucky! It hasn’t been easy; it hasn’t been bad. Every decision comes with challenges every day. Being an entrepreneur is a lot of work! I do everything myself, no help. And being a photographer is not only taking good pictures. There is A LOT to do behind the scenes. So far, I’m very happy with all I’ve done and how my business is growing.
Being a mom of two toddlers and running a business is what I think it’s my biggest challenge at the moment. Finding time to be present with my family and take care of my business and my clients at the same time. Mom life!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been a family and wedding photographer for the last couple of years. My clients are always telling me how much they love how candid and natural my pictures are, how easy it was! Some people are very nervous at the beginning of the session but I like to talk and I do my work while I make them laugh, hug, run. It is very relaxed and fun!
I love working with women. Right now, I am working on a project that I am about to launch before the end of the year. It is very exciting!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia. Always an animal lover, always. Interested in crafts and projects, painting walls with textures, tables. I even have some pictures of a “photo shoot” I did when I was 15. I painted a backdrop and took some pictures of my friend. I had no idea what I was doing but now I see how I was already showing my love for photography.
I grew up very close to my parents. We did a lot of traveling for our country, saw different places. I was definitely a happy kid!
