Check Out Makita Wingard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makita Wingard.

Hi Makita, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2017, I developed an infatuation with real estate. My husband and I drove to open houses, scouted them out, and developed a love for the housing market. The open houses often left us marveling over high ceilings, spacious layouts and stone finishing’s; peaking my curiosity to become a REALTOR®. However, I would always find myself backing away from real estate with fears and horrors of the dreaded real estate exam. I placed my dream of being a REALTOR® on hold, but it would later return. Fast forward, in 2019 being a military spouse my family and I relocated from Mississippi to Texas. My background was in Social Services so taking care of families and providing excellent customer service has always been my specialty. However, when we arrived it was hard for me to find a job that suited our needs, I needed a job that was flexible and easy to balance. The burning desire to become a REALTOR® wouldn’t go away. I found myself on many social media platforms, following famous realtors, brokers, watching YouTube videos on any and everything concerning real estate. I finally put my fears aside and took the jump.

In 2021, in the midst of Covid-19, I decided to revisit my dreams of becoming a REALTOR® and make it a reality. In March, I enrolled in Champion School of Real Estate in Austin Texas, finished my pre-licensing in May, passed my state and national exam on the first try, a Real Estate Agent in June, and became a REALTOR® and selected my brokerage Keller Williams Realty – Round Rock in July.

Here I am a today a Licensed REALTOR® in the state of Texas.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road hasn’t always been smooth and I have definitely received some bumps and bruises along the way. Some of the struggles I have faced along the way is being in a new field and starting from scratch. Transitioning from social services to becoming a REALTOR® has been a struggle. However, I’m a strong believer in patience, perception, pressure, persistence, and the process. It’s all necessary because life is a continuous process of adjustment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently a full-time REALTOR®. I’m ecstatically happy of choosing a brokerage to help foster my development as a REALTOR® Keller Williams Realty – Round Rock. I specialize in Buyers, Sellers, First Time Homebuyers, New Construction, and Luxury Properties. I serve Bell County, Williamson County and surrounding areas. (Harker Heights TX, Killeen, Temple, Belton, Round Rock, Hutto, Jarrell, Liberty Hill, and Georgetown, etc…. I’m known for my commitment to my clients, the field of real estate, the state of Texas, my family and most importantly my passion of being a REALTOR®. I’m most proud of accomplishing my dream of becoming a REALTOR®. What sets me apart from others is my years of experience in social services prior to becoming a REALTOR®, I’ve learned to uphold and support the value of families. I listen to families needs and wants.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor is don’t be timid. When you find someone successful with years of experience in your field, don’t be afraid to ask for mentorship. I found my mentor in a Real Estate Facebook group. She’s a broker with 17 years of experience. She has a wealth of knowledge and I’m extremely blessed to have her.
