Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Joles.
Hi Jose, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
JOCO started like many other small shops. An idea that I had and threw on a few apps on my iPad and never really did much with it. Then when the pandemic hit, I found myself with the extra time to devote to my Idea. It started with a small haul of hats and then quickly started growing to other logo ideas and T-shirts and now we are expanding to hoodies and beanies. I still would like to grow my product, it is something I genuinely enjoy doing. Something about people walking around with my logo on their hats and t-shirts is an awesome feeling.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting JOCO has been a learning experience since the beginning! My very first logo ever was of a wolf, and somehow evolved and ended up with an armadillo as my logo. We’ve come a long way. It seems easy, make some t-shirts, takes some pictures and slap them on social media, but I came to realize that I cared so much what my product looked like and what we represented and what we sent out to our customers. Dotting my I’s and crossing my T’s is not something I have to do, but chose to do. I take a lot of pride in my work and want to send out a quality product.
From packaging to stickers, to testing out t-shirt after t-shirt to make sure the logo is perfectly centered, to figuring out which hat is the best quality, a lot of work goes into it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JOCO Hats?
First and foremost we are a hat company. We specialize in different types of caps. While we have more growing to do, what makes JOCO hats different is that I truly believe in my product. This isn’t something that I simply make to sell. I wear my products daily! I would Like to be known as a company that has good values, trustworthy and above all a quality product that you’ll love. And let’s face it, it just looks cool.
What matters most to you? Why?
I am from a very small town south of San Antonio called Boerne. I believe very recently people have figured out this gem of a place I call home. I obviously no longer live there but go back often to visit my parents and rest of my family. JOCO hats originally was worn by mostly if not only my family out there. They were the ones cheering me on and supporting my small shop. While we still have a lot more growing to do I like to always remember my roots and where I came from. The dream is to have JOCO hats turn into something bigger someday, but even if it doesn’t my world will remain, I’ll still go back to my small hometown whether or not JOCO takes off. I guess what I am trying to say is my roots, my family matters most, and I try to reflect that in my products.
