Meet Giulia Millanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giulia Millanta.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always wanted to be a musician, but it wasn’t a viable option for my family…They wanted me to get a degree and be a responsible member of this society LOL I took a degree in medicine, never practiced and became a full-time musician and singer-songwriter.

My first record came out in 2008. I started touring shortly after, first nationally in Italy (yes, I was born and raised in Florence, Italy) then in Europe.

In 2011 I released my second record and I came to Austin to visit friends and loved it.

The year later, I decided to spend a couple of months here….and almost ten years and five records later, I’m still here!

In these past ten years, I have collaborated with amazing musicians (Charlie Sexton, Marc Ribot, David Pulkingham, Gabriel Rhodes, Hunt Sales and more…) and I have now seven solo albums, one book and several international tours under my belt.

A new record is coming out in 2022 for my 10th anniversary in Austin and it’s called “Woman on the Moon”, which is an empowering concept album about love and the role of women as healers and promoters of change through communication and personal growth.

In the meantime I also started doing this thing called “Dinner with Giulia” which is a house concert with a five course Italian meal prepared from scratch by me…yes, food is my other passion and I decided to join the two things and create special events that bring people together around music and food.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never smooth…and thank God. Otherwise what’s the fun? The struggles…. learning how to count on myself and be ok with a certain level of uncertainty is definitely one of them

Learning to be alone and search my soul. Art comes from a place of honesty and honesty requires the courage to face one’s demons…

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love writing songs. I love getting in the studio with my musicians and create something out of nothing. It’s my favorite thing to do.

Music is magic.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My only advice is: whatever you decide to do, do it because you love it. Love is the only thing that kept me going. My passion and my love for music and the creative process.
