Today we’d like to introduce you to C.B. Hudson III and Matt Noveskey.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We both toured and recorded together for over a decade in the band Blue October before hatching the idea to build our own space to develop and record other artists. We both share a passion for the recording process and have produced other acts professionally for several years. Building our own space from the ground up allowed us to provide something fresh and acoustically unique- all with the assistance of world-renowned studio designer Mark Genfan. With the guidance of both Genfan and close friend Tim Palmer (Ozzy Osbourne, Tears For Fears) we outfitted each room with only the best modern and vintage gear. In the first year alone, we built a roster packed with internationally famous artists such as Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne and Pentatonix. In the seven years since we have grown into a world-renowned brand in the music industry. We were able to build our reputation by creating a positive and nurturing environment catering to each of the individual artist’s needs. When musicians talk about Orb, they always seem to reference our amazing staff and comfortable working environment.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall it has been a very smooth process because of our friendship and synergy. We both recognize that the music industry is always evolving and we do not resist those changes, rather we embrace them. The biggest struggle was the passing of our dear friend and designer, Mark Genfan in December 2018.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My biggest joy is mentoring younger artists who are just entering the music industry and discovering their own sound. I take a lot of pride in becoming a trusted colleague and source of inspiration for artists who might feel overwhelmed by the many aspects of building a career in music. My specialty is providing a guiding hand and an outside perspective in shaping a unique and individual aesthetic by finding that one thing that truly makes that particular artist special. I am incredibly proud of that moment when an artist hears their complete original song for the first time while witnessing the awe and pure joy it brings them. What truly sets me apart is the ability to recognize talents and gifts in individuals that they may not see for themselves.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to focus on what makes you …YOU. Copying other acts or chasing trends will not bring sustained success. The best artists with the longest careers are the ones who recognize their own strengths and continuously nurture it. People are starving to hear something fresh and new so it is always best to be focusing on the individual gifts one has and unlocking that.
