Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Miranda.
Hi Tammy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2006 after going through a rough divorce, I decided I needed a new career since “my” business went with the ex, I decided to try my hand at booking some bands at one venue…..I pounded the pavement up and down 6th St in the Live Music Capitol of the World (Austin, Texas) and learned the field was wide open. Many musicians wanted help getting their feet in certain doors and those doors needed help weeding thru the hundreds of submissions they got each month!
My career was born!
The very first clubs I began to book live music in were known in many other areas of the world! Nuno’s on 6th, Blind Pig Pub, Dizzy Rooster, Chuggin Monkey, Thirsty Nickel, Maggie Maes….the list goes on and on and on…I started with one venue and one band and today, we handle live music in at least 40 clubs and have well over 500 musicians on our roster! Regularly booking upwards of 75 live musical events weekly!
Over the years, we have handled private events, weddings and even booked shows on some very big stages like Dell Match Play/ PGA, SXSW unofficial stages, Bud Light Courtyard Stage for the Spurs and many others!!
TMMP now has a staff of three booking agents, a website designer, graphic artists and we proudly endorse Skrewball Whiskey!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been easy, with plenty of ups and downs Working with musicians and venue owners and their bar staff is always interesting, sometimes rewarding, many times stressful but never dull.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own a booking agency called TMMP and we handle upwards of 75 live musical events weekly in about 40 different central Texas venues. WE handle lots of local artists and give them the start they need to be seen and heard. Generally, we take on the underdogs and try to build them up! We have started many, many, many musicians and bands that now play nationwide! It is so rewarding to see so many of them succeed. They only need someone to give them a chance.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I learned mainly that work needs to come SECOND. For years I put my work first and everything else suffered. Now that we all had the unique opportunity of stepping back and taking a long breath, I learned it won’t be the end of the world as we know it, if I don’t respond to requests immediately. If I put my family and my personal life first.
