Conversations with Lauren Hunt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hunt.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to Austin right after college and knew no one! I bought a guitar and started writing songs in my small apartment and began playing open mics as many nights a week as I could. At an Open Mic at Firehouse Hostel, I met my now bandmate Matt. We started an Americana band named The Hard Truth and wrote/recorded our first record shortly after with our dear friends, the Band of Heathens. Soon after, we signed with a company in Nashville who helped me get my first two songs I ever wrote onto a Netflix show called The Ranch. I shortly thereafter started a solo project called Lola & the Huntsmen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been smooth in the way that songwriting and performing were something that came very naturally to me. Once I started, it was hard to turn that creative faucet off. What was/is a struggle is believing that people care to hear what I have to say. Dismorphia is a real issue for those in the entertainment world and my journey was no different. Music is a balm for me and it helps me figure out how I really feel, which over the last COVID years has been a bit dry.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter and I play guitar. I am first and foremost a writer so guitar was just the method to getting out the madness. I suppose I am known for my voice (lol) as most people tell me. I also helped start with my friend DJ Cass, a local music club at Soho House where I help people learn to song-write and produce songs. I almosssttt made it onto the Voice, for whatever that counts for!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
It has taken me a long time to understand my place in the music world. I struggle with imposter syndrome like the rest of em but I always look to make sure my highest self is being pursued in my art. That’s the biggest lesson I would encourage those in the music industry, as it’s the only thing that will keep you sane! I have also learned the art of evolving and just wrote and recorded my first ever true pop song (eek!)
