Check Out Arthur Marroquin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Marroquin.

Hi Arthur, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Arthur of Arthur Bryan Marroquin Photography or of “ABM Photography”. My venture into the photography world first began with me in front of the camera as a model and actor at Missy’s Modeling Studio in the Rio Grande Valley, located in deep south of Texas. While being in front of the camera, I also found a love for being behind the camera. I enjoyed creating my own art. I saved up and got my first professional camera in 2006 since then, I’ve been learning every step of the way from great mentors such as the late Kathy Whittaker and the celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz. A photographer is never done learning!

Being a working actor myself, I’d like to say gives me an extra edge as I know both sides of the business. I understand a client’s needs and wants of a headshot session, and then I bring my knowledge and expertise of the art of the headshot and mesh both ideas to create the best headshot package I can provide so you can be fully armed with headshots that are marketable.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be published in various publications as The Wall Street Journal, PEOPLE, Natural Magazine, Austin Woman, Octane Magazine, Vigorous Magazine, The Tony Awards, Billboard Argentina, Deadline and in Playbills for shows currently running on Broadway right now! I was nominated for LA’s Best Headshot Photographer by Backstage!

My favorite assignment that was not headshot related was accompanying and photographing DeafWest’s Broadway Production of Spring Awakening: The Musical at The White House in 2015.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely Not. There’s self-doubt all along the way, people who fight your pricing, the pandemic, and then the self-doubt comes back and knocks on your door. But you just learn how to roll with the punches. I’ve had both photography and acting mentors tell me you have to suck to get better. And I’m much better than I ever used to be, always look back and compare, you’ll be astounded by your own growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for headshots. Actor Headshots. As I mentioned earlier, I believe me being an actor helps me tremendously as I know what agents and casting directors are looking for in the industry. I’m out there in the trenches with everyone who comes in to see me. I’ve worked, continue to work and every new role is a win! You must celebrate it 🙂 There’s something about my headshots that come off professional, striking, natural, and stunning.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
The moment I was watching The Wizard of Oz for the first time and I copied everything the scarecrow was doing. Truly made me realize I was gonna be an actor for the rest of my life. So if you don’t want your child to fall in love with the craft of performing, don’t show them this film. I love comedy, old comedy. I’m one of those guys who loved watching Donald O’Connor, Danny Kaye, Lucielle Ball just deliver every single time. Technique. It’s something I carry over into photography.
